My bias is that universal anything means government run, which is mediocre at best.

"People are already strapped to get a doctor," Bauer said. "As more people have insurance, they will try to get appointments with more doctors, and that will lead to dramatic increases in the time it takes to get an appointment."

I have to agree with this. It's good to know traveling nurses from Europe and Canada. Some wait for as much as a year ( Read more... )

My mother has suffered badly from untreated conditions, and her lifespan has probably been shortened significantly. Mediocre care looks like a godsend from where I'm sitting, because right now we're being told to go die in a ditch.

I believe that there has to be some kind of coverage for all. Coverage will help people treat illness more quickly and not use the ER as a primary doctor...better living and in the long run less cost.

I just don't think it should be done on a federal level. I had thought that having coverage being governed by the states and thereby better catered to the needs of that state would be a better choice.

However, what Tomoe linked me to below kinda shows that people were taking advantage of that system. I guess what's concerning me overall really is that we're being pushed to do this quickly and not being given a chance to analyze the best type of coverage for all.

Damn, and here I thought it would ideally run better on the state level. I keep on forgetting to add the human nature factor.

I just found an interesting article on Canada's health care. Interesting stuff.

You can look at Canada's system and see that most of your predictions already happen there. One of my LJ friends wrote about it a while back since she's Canadian and has had difficulty getting timely appointments.

It's good stuff to know. I like to see the pros and cons of things. There is no such thing as a "perfect" system. Still, I just don't think we should be copying anyone system/country/idea. Speaking of Canada, I just found this:
