I think you'll be fine. You won't learn how things work if you're never giving yourself a chance at it. Your father sounds paranoid, but I think you could tell him how things go for you on your working day to 'ease' him mind ^^

I'm doing grand, I'm packing away and going abroad to study in England for 1 year of Masters! ^^
