Richard made for a disturbingly attractive girl, and there was no doubt that this was Richard. Cara didn't need Zedd's sudden intake of breath or the look in Kahlan's eyes, as wide as saucers, to tell her that. Everything about this woman was familiar, from her height to the soft sweep of hair falling into dark eyes and the broad shoulders tapering into a narrow waist, although Richard's clothes no longer fit quite so well.
Not that Cara was complaining, given that Richard had a habit of wearing his shirts half open to the waist.
"Well," said Richard. "Did it work?" And then he paused, his eyes widening. He looked down and took a sudden breath of his own, but, being Richard, he didn't panic. Instead, moments later he let it out again as a heavy sigh and gave Zedd a long suffering look. "Zedd..."
"Well, I think we can say it worked, if not quite as intended," said Zedd swiftly. "Rahl's tracking spell will no longer find you."
"Of course it won't," said Cara impatiently, "because it's not looking for someone with breasts."
Richard closed his eyes briefly before turning that long suffering look on her, which really wasn't fair. It was a perfectly logical observation and it wasn't as though it was Cara's fault that he was now a woman, even - especially - one with very nice breasts.
Cara's gaze started to slip lower. This could be fun, especially if the female version of Richard wasn't as much of a prude as the male one.
Kahlan cleared her throat, giving Cara a very pointed look, her eyebrows lowered ominously. Fine. She wouldn't eye up Kahlan's girlfriend, at least not when Kahlan was watching. "How long will the spell last?" she asked instead and Zedd hummed thoughtfully, the sound even more ominous than Kahlan's look.
"A week," he said. "Maybe longer." Richard's eyes widened; perhaps Cara had been wrong about him not panicking.
"Then you're going to need a corset," she said, and maybe she leered, just a little; Richard blinked at her before glancing down again.
She'd never noticed before that when Richard blushed, the colour spread from his cheeks, first down his throat and then lower. She couldn't tell exactly how low because Richard quickly pulled his shirt closed, folding his arms across his very ample bosom and glaring at her over the top of them. Spoilsport.
"Maybe longer?" Kahlan asked, and her tone caught Cara's attention. "Like a month or more longer?"
Oh. Cara hadn't thought of that. That part was... not going to be fun.
Zedd blinked at them both, and for a man who'd had a wife and daughter he was remarkably slow on the uptake.
"Maybe," he said with a frown.
Cara and Kahlan shared a significant look, one that Richard didn't miss.
"What is it?" he asked, his voice high-pitched, and not, Cara thought, just because he was female now. "Kahlan? Cara?"
No. That part was not going to be fun at all.
