These guys are awesome!  Rurik and I really prefer to get music from instrumental groups as opposed to what you usually hear on the radio.  We enjoy a wild variety.  This band is my son's new favorite.  At 5 he says "this music makes my body move, play some more!".  The first video is an interesting remake of a radio tune with beat box and banjo ( Read more... )

Of course I had to listen to "Genuine Negro Jig" first! Loved the flamenco feel, made me think of the Spanish influences on Jamaican culture; how my mother dances, and that both her parents spoke Spanish.

I really enjoy the wide variety this group performs. I used to take lessons in Old Time/Bluegrass fiddle when I was a teen and I love to hear a well played instrumental ensemble, esp. with roots in Old Time which we can directly trace back to African music. They have Old Time, this piece, Celtic, Blues, etc. I think folks don't research the progression of music enough:<. I'm glad you like them!
