Since it's been a couple years, it's time to update my technological toys. You see, they've begun malfunctioning. Oh, the joys of planned obsolescence!

For point and shoot cameras, I always go Canon. They have a 8MP camera out, the Canon PowerShot A590, which is currently selling for about $150. It takes great pics (some of the Faeriecon ones were taken with it) and has some of the nice bells and whistles.
As for portable DVD players, take a look at the J-Win brand. The biggest selling point for me was the price, but that were also Multi-Region out of the box, with a good PAL/NTSC convertor. If you mainly get standard US DVDs, its not a big deal. But if you like imports, its a great machine.

Thanks. I know you really know cameras, so I trust your advice. I've been very happy with my PowerShot, and the customer service was great the two times I needed them.

Thanks for ht tip on the DVD player, too.

DVD players I know from nothing--however I've been really happy with my point and shoot Panasonic Lumix camera and would recommend it without reservation.

Take a look at the Panasonic Lumix (digital). I bought one after a recommendation by an LJ friend (Manoman), and am very pleased with it. Of course, you'll have to try it yourself.
