Act II/Intermission

Aug 15, 2008 21:14

First of all, I want to mention that my poetry reading went extremely well last night. Several people came up to me afterwards and told me how much they liked it. My only regret is that I forgot to nudge them to sign up for my mailing list. But this is the first time I've done this in a long time, so I guess that's excusable.

I will share more ( Read more... )

I have to say that Batman is SUCH an appropriate name for him, and he is my hero. He brought me hot water for my tea on saturday morning. (He's become a good friend over the years, and I value him and the Dormouse especially highly, among my otakon-friends.) I know he was having a bit of a rough time, but he deserves good things. I was able to help him by letting him stay at my house on Thursday night, and he and my own sweetie have the same bday. ^_^

Also sounds like you were very busy, but I know why none of you 'seem' that old. You're all young at heart, even if your body can't do what it used to, y'know? (*says the girl turning 26 on august 22...*) I believe there are two ages: your chronological age which is the number of years you have, and your mental/emotional age--which fluctuates depending on stuff. My 'age' is thus, anywhere from 6-60yrs old on any given day. ^_^

The nickname Batman actually comes from a story he tells frequently, where supposedly on his last day of work from a job he particularly hated, he improvised a cape, stood on the desk and proclaimed, "I'm Batman." You ought to have him tell it to you sometime. But yes, he's the sort of person who would take out bad guys just because he felt he was the only one around who could do it.

I agree with your thoughts on age. I think that you tend to look and feel younger if you keep that youthful spirit (and take good care of yourself). Reminds me of something my mother told me once. She confided in me that, most of the time, she still feels like she's about 16!

Oh I know! He's told me that story before, and it remains a favorite. I encourage him to tell others too, and I agree with your reading of him quite rightly. He's a good friend, and I wish I could do more for him.

Women in my family tend to look 'younger' than we are anyways, but I have been pegged as both older and younger than my actual age. A few years ago it hit me that the reason must be because there are 'two' ages. ^_^ My own mom often likes to say I keep her young. I say it's because she's got a young spirit already. ^_~

I think being petite has a lot to do with your being seen as younger than your actual age. Several other Otakon staffers have had the same experience, they tell me.

One of the highest compliments, I felt, came from one of the friends who accompanied us. He's a SF/Tech writer who, by his own admission, isn't into poetry. He enjoyed the reading enough to buy one of my books, and he told me that I'm one of the few poets he's heard read their work who knows how to read aloud!
