I've been meaning to get back to WW, but haven't been there in many months. When did they change the program? Does that mean there's a new slider and everything?

They changed it right after Thanksgiving. According to their site, it was the first change in about 13 years, and it reflects current weight loss research. Honestly, it was the kick I needed to revise my thinking about what I eat.

Well, there's one other change I wish they'd get through their heads - back when I lost my weight the first time, I was about 20lbs from goal when I got pregnant. They won't let you come to meetings if you're pregnant. It was so upsetting. I felt I needed the group, not to, you know, lose weight (since I needed to gain some for the pregnancy), but to stay on track and continue to eat healthily. I actually called up the national office to complain about it, but much to my surprise, they didn't appreciate their own group support system they'd created - it was all about how this was for losing weight, which is contraindicated for pregnancy unless you are morbidly obese.

I was so ticked.

I still am actually, I just don't have the time or energy to do anything about it.

I can see how you would be frustrated! Since I'm doing it online, I didn't have to worry about attending meetings while I was pregnant. I did continue to track my food for a little while, and I did track my weight. Like you, I wish I'd had some guidance while I was pregnant on how to gain at a more moderate pace. My personal theory is that my fat cells were sitting there, waiting to be refilled. Plus, unlike many women, I didn't face problems with indigestion until my third trimester, so I was eating a lot ( ... )

I'm kind of curious how you determined what exercise to do. I've been trying to get some sort of program going for a while (I'm tired of being weak as a kitten) but don't really know what the best approach is.

Well, if you've got any outstanding health concerns, the best way to start is to ask your doctor for ideas. Then I would suggest finding out if there's a YMCA in your area. They tend to be the most reasonably priced on a monthly basis, and some of them have trainers who will work with you ( ... )

Just realized I didn't answer your initial question. I started doing water aerobics while I was pregnant because it was one of the few safe ways to do aerobic exercise in my second and third trimesters. I'm continuing it now because I made many friends in the class and because it's a great low-impact exercise (because of the cushioning provided by the water, it has virtually no negative impact on your joints).

I signed up for the Zumba class because I've always loved to dance. That is a high-impact class that is high-energy and lots of fun.

I also try to get to the fitness center at least once a week to do toning on my upper and lower body. This is something I've done since grad school, and it helps me maintain muscle tone, which also helps take pressure off old joint injuries.
