REVIEW: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1

DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS BELOW.

I was dreading to watch this movie; as always, I feared the worst when it comes to its adaptation, but more so because it will be the part one of the last two movies of a series that has captivated my imagination for the last 12 years.

The first time I saw the trailer for Deathly Hallows, my immediate reaction was: “ ( Read more... )

What I really like about this review is how you put things into perspective. I wouldn't be able to comment on the technical aspect of the movies even if my life depends on it, so I love reading what people who actually know about this stuff see it ( ... )

What I really like about this review is how you put things into perspective.I was trying to make a decent review because I felt that I would just jump from one point to the next if I didn't break it down into specific segments.

I would never watch this with someone who hasn't read the books -- I would hate to explain things that were in the book.

It felt such a weak reason as a start to Ron's jealousy.I felt the same way, that's why I didn't like it. I'm not opposed to Hermione wearing one, but for it to be the catalyst of Ron's jealousy seemed petty -- it could have easily been shot as Ron seeing Harry and Hermione talking away from the tent and not have the line about the perfume -- or instead of Hermione's perfume the snatchers could have smelled something from their camp. But this is me again, nit-picking; it worked well with the intention it was created, so its fine.

or instead of Hermione's perfume the snatchers could have smelled something from their camp.

If the snatchers thought he smelled something like bonfire or people cooking, I would have bought it. In fact I thought that was what it was all about at first, before Hermione mentioned the perfume. And then of course the line with Harry where Ron saw them and I was like o_0.

Another thing about Malfoy Manor scene that bugged me -- the shift of the Elder Wand owner from Draco to Harry. Do they expect us to accept that little tussle Harry and Draco had towards the end right after Dobby dropped the chandelier is what it's all about? Did Harry disarm Draco before that?

That part went so fast, Harry forcibly taking the wands from Draco -- I don't know how they could show the connection of that to the Elder Wand in DH2.

Yeah, it was clear to us book readers what happened and how the shift happened, but it would be bloody complicated for non book readers who have no idea what's going on to understand. It was such a brilliant moment that when I read it in DH I was like, "omg, JKR you're genius!" but then it got such a treatment in the movie... *sighs*

Are we being so nit-picking because we're book readers or we really see something not quite right there?

I'm still puzzling over the fact that one of the trio said all the people at the wedding went into hiding but Ginny is going off to Hogwarts. Did I miss something? There's no way the Weasleys can be in hiding if they're sending Ginny off to Hogwarts.
