I've been following this story for months. Then today, I find that the three guys that took video of it get immunity because they testified. Angry doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this. The girl was clearly drugged. Plus, even if she had only been drinking, it wouldn't have made it right. I really think that they all should have been charged as adults. Also, the social media sites should be held accountable for not removing the videos promptly and reporting it. It should have been clear that the girl was a minor.
What is wrong with the world when victims are treated this way and the criminals are treated like heroes because they play sports?
I've only just caught this recently, because it doesn't play on the news down here so much. I think Bill O'Reilly had a quick segment about it when it first hit the media. But it didn't register that THIS was the same case. To give him credit, even he said, based on what he'd seen of the evidence at that time, that there was some sort of cover up going on because of the sports, and that he hoped the victim in the case got justice. I didn't connect that segment to this until just recently
( ... )
We got more coverage on it here even though this happened on the other side of the state. The news here today did state that the one year sentence is the minimum. It may be extended to their 21st birthdays, but that's still not enough. That's still 5 years or less.
