Fond memories of Lac d'Orange

It was the finest summer on record. The rowboats made love to the sweet waters of the Lac d'Orange, malnourished orphans made merry by its sandy shores, and the swimming enthusiasts not yet stricken with diphtheria frolicked gaily at high tide. Yet for me, the summer sun shone bittersweetly. Soon, I knew, the cold hand of the harsh mistress Autumn
