Back into the deep freeze

Heading down toward the single digits again, which is quite a wrench after the warm weather we had for the last few days. No heavy snow, but all the melt and spongy stuff from the weekend is now hard as iron again. I'm trying to get the woodstove going after it has set cold for a week, which is sometimes a challenge if there's not enough breeze ( Read more... )

Nothing for it but to endure the electioneering, and the charities (or "charities") are immune, but for those trying to sell a product by mail there is USPS form 1500. Yes, it says 'obscenity' but no less than the Supreme Court has said that the recipient is the sole determiner of what is considered obscene. Unfortunately you likely will have to send it yourself as clueless postmasters (at least the one here) figure that if THEY don't see it as sexual, it shouldn't be processed.

It's all such a waste of paper and resources. But then junk mail always has been that. Filing complaints about it really achieves nothing I'm sure, other than using up more paper and resources.

The insurance thing is a scam I suspect, just like the multiple offers I keep getting to "renew" my extended warranty on every car I've ever owned. As for the satellite TV people, they're just idiots. They have no competition to speak of. Do they really think I wouldn't have already contacted them if I actually wanted their service?

For most of the stuff we get here, it's not even fit to be recycled as firelighters, so it goes straight to land-fill.

Form 1500 is not a mere complaint. It's prohibitory order. They WILL pay attention. The only place so clueless as to try to send adverts after that was TigerDirect. I know Jay did deal the USPS about that then, but don't know the details other than they haven't sent us anything since.

Strange really I don't actually indulge in anything that is "touted" at me. I don't use anyone who contacts me directly be it business or charity. It happened a lot with the recent government insulation rebate, where the quotes seemed to magically be the full sum of the rebate.
