I'm reading something similar for my forensic psychology exam tomorrow (well it is more an interesting tangent than study per se). The exam was the guy trying to say that it was his wife rolled into the knife 17 times while asleep.

Yes, some defences are quite interesting. Such as the argument that playing Russian Roulette isn't quite reckless enough for it to be considered murder.
