Les Mis movie 2012

GAH!!! What can I say? After all the times I have seen it live onstage I didn't think it would effect me so drastically. Began crying when Colm Wilkinson came onscreen as the Bishop even though I knew he was playing the part. Pretty much cried the rest of the way through the movie...as did everyone else. I was thinking about taking my daughter to see it, but I'm wondering if it might be too intense for an 11-year-old. What do you think?

It is much more intense than the stage play. The review by the director, etc today sez that's becausse of the emotion projected through the close-ups. There is also explicit portrayals of prostitutes and death of Gavroche who is a boy of about 10. Also some crude language by the men approaching the hookers and by the innkeeper and his wife ( ... )

Thanks for the advice. I think you are right. It would be a little too intense for her. I'm not even sure that I'll go to see it - I hate crying in public!

I realized this morning that On Demand on Comcast has a whole lot of clips of the movie: BTS and 'Making of' sort of stuff that will give you a much better idea of what the film feels like. It is under 'Top Picks' and the subheading of Les Miserables.

As I recall my girls were 14 and 15 when we first saw the play in NY in 1990 - Ccan it really be 22 years ago!?
