Mixed feelings.

I'm actually a bit mixed about sending Gabe to kindy in 2 weeks time, and worried if I have to pull him out again as there is no where left to go in the area which is unfair on him ( Read more... )

Lots of kids don't go to Kindy. There are lots of other places that kids get lots of interaction time and some structure.
Having no car must make choice difficult. But is there a way you could vet other Kindys to see how they might handle his diabetes? I can understand them being nervous about dealing with a serious condition like Gabes, but it's not fair for him to be written off just because they are afraid to learn something that can help him. Could you stay with him for the majority of sessions?

Must be very frustrating. And fact is, any school he attends will need to be trained to deal with his diabetes, keep an eye ut for warning signs etc so why is it so hard for the Kindy to do the same?!

That's the problem there are other kindys that are not too far away but the waiting lists are not worth it for some, and the others are too far away that it wouldn't be worth traveling there ( ... )

If he has the pump in, will he need to be injected? Or do they consider a dose through his pump to be an injection? I think that if they are prepared to deal with severely allergic children, then Gabe shouldn't be an issue for them!

Arrghh, that just sucks. Sorry you have to deal with this kind of crap Alpha. At the end of the day, if it doesn't work, play groups/coffee groups and any other socialization is better then nothing. And I know that a lot of schools let you start with half days until your child settles in.
Sucky options. Alas, the system should go kick itself.

Not sure how they will feel about the pump. But if they don't want to dose, due to him only being there over morning or after noon tea it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
With all the problems we had with his day care it's hypos' I'm more worried about. But we shall take it 1 day at a time as it's all we can do.
he'll have NO trouble settling in at all.
Maybe play groups etc would be a better way to go, it's just a matter of finding some, they are thing on the ground in our area.

I can just see that I'm going to be the parent they hate, lol least of all as I can be excused from most of the food 'rules' aside from peanuts which I understand. But Chippies, and LCM bars and muesli bars are great for Gabe in terms of carbs for running around on. tehe.
