LOL... your posts make me smile. Actually, I laughed out loud a couple of times. I'm glad you're making time to share your fussbudgetiness with us during the hectic holidays.
I, too, too have a pet peeve about getting cards with no personal writing on them whatsoever. Can I tell you how much I absolutely loathe "Send Out Cards" ?? I cringed every time I've received one. I find them highly impersonal and tacky. If you're going to go to the trouble of sending a card by postal mail, at least have the decency to sign and send it yourself, instead of having computer generated greetings and an anonymous source mailing it on your behalf.
Maybe this year you should just snap a shot of everyone whatever mood they are in - smiles, tears, eye-rolling, whatever. It might be the most "real" Christmas photo you ever take and send : )
I'll be sending lots of love and light your way tomorrow during the party.
It seems like I go through a really grumpy period right before Christmas where I just want to sack it all. It always works out though, and any extra effort on my part is USUALLY appreciated, I suppose.
I think people regard the sending out of cards as a necessary evil. "Just get it done" is the predominant attitude towards them. How about the huge newsletters without any personal message at the end? I love that, too. :/ I know it takes a little longer, but for Chrissake (literally) just write 5 words of acknowledgement of who you are sending to, I try and do it every year. Oh well.
It sounds like you need a picspam but am entirely too busy to oblige. Hmmm...will ponder.
Also, I hear you on all of those points except I am of the suck-and-only-sign-a-card-because-it's-a-picture-card-IF-I-even-get-it-in-the-mail-person and this year, I'm NOT doing cards (boo).
I understand not doing cards at all. If you realize that mostly they end up in the garbage. :( Even so, I am going to attempt it tonight, because believe it or not, my family is asking if we are doing on. Walgreens has them ready in an hour and they are really cheap. So...we'll try.
Speaking of Grandma, I have never even heard of "Tillys" is it a teenage boy store? You are my dear are shopping for 3 kids no wonder you are grumps! Plus you have a toddler at home who is very sweet but very bizzo.
(Allison has always been very good about sending out cards that feel personal and you are very good at that too)
That rant did feel very good, I just hope you don't lose your mind before Christmas. Maybe next year put a strict limit on how many presents they will get. We did that this year with a few folks and it made my life much happier. I'm not sitting up at night wrapping presents.
Tilley's is a teenagery store. Lots of skater stuff. The staff was very helpful there, though, they know a mealticket when they see it (esp in this economy). :)
Allison is great about the personal greetings on cards. I love getting stuff from her.
Mike was telling me about a guy he works with that isn't giving out gifts this year and instead, his three kids are doing service projects. I love that idea.
OK, I guess I need to explain what "Send Out Cards" means. Ashley misunderstood and thought I meant photo cards (which I didn't - I enjoy receiving photo cards... though a personal message is also appreciated : )
Send out cards is a mlm business that sends out greeting cards. Lovely idea in theory, but the end results is higly impersonal and rather tacky.
On their site you your card, type a message, click to send. SendOutCards prints it (on horribly cheap paper), stuffs it and mails it on your behalf. The card never touches your hands - so no personal signature.
I loathe them. If you're going to send me a card, choose it, sign it and mail it yourself : )
I understood what you meant...Shutterfly sends out your cards for you too, but at least there is a picture on them. I'm not sure why you would even bother to do the SendOutCard thing.

I need to listen to that "What's This" metal version.
Hooray for friendly, helpful neighbors :)

And yes, that neighbor helped my sanity yesterday. Literally, she did.
