No, his books weren't the most quality literature out there, but they were fun and I enjoyed them and they were the first real grown-up books I read, so they'll always have a special place in my heart.
It's just so sad. Loved the characters and dialogue and they were just fun. He hadn't written anything new for a while, and I didn't much like the Dreamers, but still. So, so sad.
Right, he made jokes about that since, like, 2001. He had a line in the Rivan Codex that was like, "I was born in 1931 (yeah, that's right. Start counting. It's depressing)." And then he said that he wasn't going to write any more series books since he didn't want to leave them unfinished, so he was now a one-book writer.
Heh, I remember that line. That was an interesting book-- the sections where it was him writing down his thoughts sounded like he was having a conversation with the reader over coffee.

Damn.
Why am I the last person to know about this stuff?!
I loved his books as well. The characters were what made them so enjoyable-- they were real people.

I have vague memories about talking about his death with you, something about how he wasn't going to start another book because he was going to die?
Very very sad business :C
