So, in the new Star Trek movie, does Jim have a brother? I know they wrote George Samuel in, and that kid that Jim passed on the road was supposed to be him, but they cut the scenes and changed that kid's name to "Johnny," so does George Samuel exist in this canon or no? If everything was the same until the Kelvin, he'd have to. But I'd be okay

Personally, I like to think he exists, though I don't have any idea where he would have been when Jim was born.

Yes, and this is the problem! My instinct is to say that they aren't--you can use what appeals to you, of course, but you aren't obligated to--but what do I know?
It just seems odd to me that both parents would be on the ship when they have a what?--two year old? Definitely under five--at home. You would think one of them would have requested leave or somesuch.

But, really, yeah, you'd expect her to be on maternity leave at that point. Or maybe the Kelvin was on, like, a year-long mission when she found out she was pregnant and they couldn't turn back or something.

I'd love to see a good fic dealing with the brothers in the new universe though and how they differ from the original.

It's not like I have anything against George (or Sam. He's Sam originally, right, but I think I heard in the novelization they called him George? Or I'm smoking crack). I'm just trying to figure it all out. So Kirk was always born on the Kelvin? And in the original timeline, when Nero wasn't there, it was just the sweetest scene ever? And then George and Winona went back to Iowa and dropped Jim off and stayed in Starfleet, and mostly the boys lived in Iowa, except for a brief stay on Tarsus IV? And, hey, why wasn't Sam one of the nine who could identify Kodos?
I'm going to have to watch TOS, aren't I.

Yeah, Jim always called him Sam. Of course, that could have been one of the changes with George instead using his father's name? I would guess, anyway. Change for the new universe!
Jim was 14, so maybe he was doing a study abroad type thing on Tarsus IV? IDK. They've never been consistent about anything.
