Went and saw "Mamma Mia!" last night. Oh, man, guys. Oh, man. So fun. I mean, I guess if you went in expecting to hate it, you would. But if you have even a tiny bit of a sense of humor and you're willing to go along it, it's great fun. I'm not saying it's a good movie. It's a musical strung together by ABBA songs. With bad, bad singing. ( Read more... )

All things considered, do you recommend Mamma Mia?

I think I am going to see it!

I definitely recommend it if you're already interested in seeing it. It's pure fun and sort of like cotton candy--completely unsubstantial, but pretty and tasty.

Man, listening to Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, and Stellan Skarsgård sing "Our Last Summer" is PRICELESS. And be sure to watch the credits! It's...special. :D

I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!! It was PURE CRACK! I saw the play when I was visiting my aunt about 5 years ago, and it was hysterical on stage--I was surprised how closely the movie followed the play. They had a lot of nods to the stage show in it. Like when all the guys came and danced on the dock with their flippers? It works on stage because it's so silly and--it's a *play*, it's supposed to work. I was surprised at how they pulled off that sort of thing, and at how well it worked.

Of course, I knew what the story was. I also went in IMMEDIATELY after seeing The Dark Knight and THAT was an interesting juxtaposition, but it might have made it that much better. I thought it was hysterical. They clearly had too much fun making that movie.

Also, Pierce Brosnan CAN NOT SING!! But somehow I'm okay with the casting anyway, as he seems to have made up for it with enthusiasm. They all did!

Yeah, I saw Mamma Mia! on stage...at some point...maybe 2004? Anyway, it was hysterical and so funny and I couldn't wait to see this. Like you said, it was just so funny and perfect. They took advantage of doing a movie, but they didn't forget the stage roots.

And they were all just having such a good time. I don't mind so much that Pierce Brosnan can't sing because it wasn't like it was completely awful and off-key, and he was so clearly, "Yep, I'm singing. ABBA songs. To Meryl Streep. My life is the best ever, did I mention?"

Oh, the end! And when we got flashes of 20 years ago! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
