  • Guy Fawkes - nothing - 18:00-22:30 patrolling city - all quiet on the western front.

Friday
  • 14:32 - scrub fire - Titahi Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant - K28 (stand down) just as we are leaving the station
  • 22:39-01:30 - scrub fire - Wadestown Road

Saturday
  • 08:00 - 16:00 - Exercise Phoenix - cordoning off areas for helicopter landings & fire crew ( Read more... )

I'm still amazed at the politeness of the call for waiting til you were leaving the party anyway. Might have made for less sleep loss earlier though.

Nope, we had to wait for dawn for the chopper as the fire was inaccessable over the bank at the summit of Paekakariki Hill Road, above State Highway 1, so getting there earlier would just have meant waiting there longer. The fire was going from before 11pm - it took a while for us to be called. The command vehicle from Wellington was there, Te Horo's crew, Upper Hutt's tanker stayed with us for the whole night with its crew, Wainui showed up in the morning, along with one of our other vehicles.
