Hello, bonjour, hola!

So I'm contemplating the whole dreamwidth thing. I've snagged my name, and am attempting to import my journal, but it keeps failing... *le sigh*.
Then I thought, what fun is contemplating all alone? NONE!
Who knows well more than me about all this malarky? MY FLIST!
What does this call for? A POLL!!!

I wouldn't mind if my importing was happening, albeit slowly, it's just completely failing. DW say it is probably because LJ is still screwy...

I think the fact that there is just so much stuff archived on lj means it will never be abandoned completely...

Okay now see, I didn't even know I could 'import' my journal to DW. I thought I was going to have to just re-post everything over there. *sighs heavily* I'm feeling inadequate for this whole thing...

Wellllllll, in theory you can, but that is not currently working for me! But DW say that is LJ's current problem, and to keep trying...

I am also feeling v inadequate at this sort of thing - hence my polling! It is such a faff!

I kinda lied. I actually live in all three journals. I post to DW because x-posting is super easy from there, but I float around all three, follow different people and different comms in all of them. If nothing else, it's nice to have copies of my journal in all three places so that A) if one of them collapses, I don't lose anything and B) I don't have that dreaded "empty journal" that stops people from friending. I don't really see a downside to mirroring, at least.

P.S. I had no problem importing, but I would assume that between LJ's problems and high demand, it might be more of an issue now. I did it a long time ago.

I've had DW for a while now but I mostly only use it to back stuff up. It has come in handy recently with the problems LJ has been having and I've found quite a lot of my f-list over there. I think I'll go and stalk you now.

I'm using the DW comm for hp_creatures as a mirror for the lj comm and backing up all the fest stuff there - which turned out to be handy when I couldn't access the prompts list. Dreamwidth lets you do bigger posts than LJ so I'm planning on posting the longer fics on the DW comm and linking to them from LJ rather than having about ten posts each for them.

I like the idea of hosting the bigger fest fics there - and the idea of LJ going kerplooey again mid-fest is not a pleasant one...

We just got a DW mirror for dudley_redeemed so that if lj goes down during the posting period then the fest will still go on. We've put the timelines & guidelines on it and the prompts, but we only did that in the last couple of days so I don't yet know how much use it will get.

I got my personal one last time lj got DDOS ed & copied my masterlist onto it rather than importing anything. Now I post fics from there cos cross-posting is pretty straightforward. Last week I was meant to post to a little bang & couldn't get on on the laptop but sometimes (bizarrely) could on my phone, so I posted it to DW and posted a link in the header on the comm from the phone.

I'd rather be here, but DW is backup.

I think mirror comms for fests is looking like a seriously sensible precaution... especially is this nonsense continues!

Copying my fic masterlist - this is why I turn to my flist for advice! What a sensible idea... especially while importing is failing!

The only problem with copying the masterlist is that it mostly links to fics on lj. So if lj goes down ... Also I now have 3 ( I got ij too) masterlists to remember to update. Ij was a real "panic buy " cos I can't work it out at all.
