First off: am I crazy or did LJ change its profile layout overnight? I could have sworn it was the same old layout yesterday. It's...different, and I think that's the worst part. I've been on livejournal since 2004, and not much has changed in those years (minus the whole basic/basic plus account thing, the whole 6 userpics for basic account thing

"What spawned this train of thought, you ask? Well, I'm applying for a week long internship with the UN overseas during spring semester, and so is Nicole, one of my best friends. She asked me for help on her application, but I don't want to help her too much, otherwise she could end up being the one with the internship and not me and I'll feel like crap for it later. I think I, unintentionally, conveyed these thoughts to her and she's upset with me but won't actually come out and say that she's upset. And this is the part of competition I hate. It makes it impossible for people to have true friends. Everyone just becomes competition that you're secretly trying to one-up. I realized today that, from here on out, the rest of my life will be nothing but competition, and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet
