Oh man. I am so tired of seeing goddamn santa everywhere. Not everyone is freaking Christian. Stop staying Merry Christmas everywhere you go people. At least try to be a little more P.C. Happy Holidays is not that hard. Maybe I sound like a grouch, but how do you think Jewish people feel? And everyone else who doesn't celebrate the birth of Jesus? ( Read more... )

Elle! Seriously was thinking that today too. One of my patients was like "Merry Christmas" and I'm thinking, "yo, I'm jewish." But I'm really not!! But what if i was?!

ok so maybe this is a dumb question - but im gonna ask it anyway - i know christmas is a christian holiday celebrating the birth of christ but - to me its being with family and friends and giving presents and santa claus as the spirit of christmas - you know father christmas - so my question - is santa like, a christian man - like did he give gifts in honor or jesus - or to make children around the world happy? i mean so can you say merry christmas in honor of that and not necessarily make it have a religious connotation? or just because Chritsmas itself the word is religious does that make it a christian thing to say - i mean i say happy holidays cuz thats what the season is about - but just a question - cuz i mean i definitley say merry christmas to some people, not as a religous thing but as a, hey have fun with your family while youre home and getting presents in honor or santa claus who gives presents. so yeah just lemme know...

Santa is definitely a Christian symbol. And I agree. To me, the holidays are about being with your family. Not about religion. Which is why when everyone is saying "Merry Christmas" to everyone else, it's very excluding to those of us who don't celebrate Christmas. I have about 5 Jewish sisters and they get extremely offended. It just bothers me. Because I think everyone should be included when we wish happiness. It's just that Christianity is the predomninant religion, so "Merry Christmas" is what we tend to get instead of "Happy Holidays."

And yes, everyone has good intentions when they say "Merry Christmas," but you can't really separate one meaning from the other. No matter what you believe it means, to people of other religions, it equals Christ. To my mother, Christmas is not at all about Santa and presents or anything like that. It's about being with her family, yes, but mainly for her it's about celebrating Christ and her religion and going to church and praying. And for the bulk of Christians, that's also what it's about.

So, I guess what my rant was about was exclusivity. This entire season is about love and happiness and being together. And when people say "Merry Christmas" to one another, it unintentionally, but automatically excludes people who just want the same things everyone else does.

So....yea :)

I miss you. Why aren't you here?

i wont be home until friday - i was gonna come home and be there tomorrow really early - but theres gonna be lots of rain and ice and snow all night tonight and all day thursday so i wont be home til friday afternoon - but i love you and i cant wait to see you and i do agree saying merry xmas is exclusive - i guess to me it has nothing to do with religion so i just say it automatically but i think i'll watch myself now - i mean i say happy holidays at work because i have to - but in normal everyday conversations i talk about christmas and say merry christmas because it has no religous connotations to me - but to others it does - well i love you baby and i cant wait to see you!!!!!
