It's a call from a number he doesn't recognise and that's part of the reason he takes it, signalling an I'll be back to the rest of the guys in the studio. Teddy raises his eyebrows at the gesture before he turns back to the guitarist, speaking in a low voice.

"Hello?" Dongwook says into the phone when he's in the hallway, wondering if it's a telemarketer, his mother or god forbid, a fan.

"Hey man, wassup?"

The English and the voice behind it is instantly recognisable, and Dongwook slides to the floor, his eyes shut and grinning widely.

"Not much, man, you?"

"Not much!" Danny's warm laughter fills Dongwook's ear, and he grins brighter, right hand half covering his face. "Not much he says, what a liar. I heard you're recording a new album. Congrats on your comeback!"

"Oh, uh, thanks," Dongwook says, feeling unsafe and completely lame as he fumbles for words. It's been a while since he's spoken to Danny -- scratch that, it's been years -- and while they used to be unbelievably close, that doesn't mean it's easy to erase a years of silence. He abandons English for Korean, familiar and safe. "What're you up to?"

"Me? Nothing, not like you, at least. Went back to Cali for a while but it's not like I had a debut in the US or Japan or like I'm preparing for a comeback in Korea."

They share a laugh, even though Dongwook knows it's not true. Danny's solo work was far more impressive than any of his, especially the failure that was the US debut. But he pushes the negative thought to the back of his mind, concentrating on the here and the now with Danny on the phone to him.

"How'd you get my number?"

Danny hesitates, clicks his tongue and Dongwook recognises the gesture, and that makes him smile. "I have my ways," he says elusively before changing the subject.

After ten more minutes of catching up, Dongwook can't feel his cheeks from the force of his smiles. He can't remember the last time he's smiled this much from a phonecall, relating stories of their dongsaengs and babies, Big Bang, and how they've grown up so well, into young men and, "Aren't you proud of them, Danny? Our babies."

Danny snorts. "Babies? You and Hanbyul better have some soon and name one after me, and when he grows up you can tell him, 'That's the man your daddy used to perform with and feel up on stage!'"

Dongwook laughs again, his cheeks going numb. "And you better name one of yours after me, then. How's your lovelife, anyone special? You can tell Dongwookie aaaaanythingggg."

He suspects Danny's starting to hurt from the laughter as well as he splutters into the phone and threatens to hang up.

"Anyway, I caught you in the middle of studio time, didn't I? We'll have to meet up for drinks sometime and then you have to tell me eeeeeverythinggggg."

They agree on a time later that week and Dongwook makes Danny smile when he makes him promise. Dongwook makes sure that Danny's holding his pinky out, curled around thin air before he hangs up.

After a few deep breaths, hands pressed over his checks to make sure he isn't red, he goes back inside with a small smile on.

"Who was that?" Teddy says casually as he stops jamming on the keyboard and waves the studio crew back to their places.

"Danny. Did you know he's back in Seoul?" Dongwook goes back to his place at the mic before he glances at Teddy, who quickly hides a smile. "YOU TOLD HIM MY NUMBER."

"No need to sound like a teenage girl," Teddy says before he's silenced by a handful of paper in his face.
