If it has to end, then that was a neat and lovely way to end it. If it comes back, we have many juicy avenues to explore, and if it doesn't, then it ended with a sense of gentle resolution.

Dorian gifting John with an updated, improved leg was perfect, and very sweet, but it couldn't have been cheap, even with Rudy pulling strings.

And you can bet I'll be writing fic to fill in the gaps.

Agreed - nice way to end the season.

And the gift was really lovely too. It was so nice given all that they've used John's leg to symbolize his feelings for tech (I honestly don't like that they do that, but it does lend really lovely meaning to the gift).

I think a big part of the problem with cyborgs is that the technology isn't there yet--just like with the nanobot facelifts, people had to die in order for Glenn to do his experiments.

Prosthetic limbs and artificial organs don't seem to be a problem (Kennex isn't comfortable with his, but that seems to be more his personal feelings than society's rules). But there does seem to be a point where someone has gone too far. It may be because robots are possessions and tools, and becoming a cyborg is a loss of personhood, or that the ideal humans are Chromes, who are wholly human and so perfectly healthy that, barring accident, will never need artificial parts. They are okay using technology to improve their humanness, but not replace it.

I think that makes a lot of sense - that robots are things and anything that challenges the boundaries of personhood is a threat to society/the order of things - kind of the classic cyborg issue. Your point about Chromes is so interesting - they are designed to need less technological intervention/help.

I love that Kennex knows exactly what the evaluators need to hear and he gives such a nice review. And that he pretends that he only gave them the incriminating stories about Dorian just to mess with him - that scene was adorable.

Interesting that they keep showing cyborgs - those with partly human parts - as so forbidden, like it messes with the whole social order if there isn't a clear boundary between machine and human. Wonder if Dorian's synthetic soul or his memories that were implanted will ever be relevant to that, if we get the chance to find out.

The very idea that this could've been the last of Almost Human totally breaks my wobbly little heart after that episode. Seriously, I can't even think about the crime story or plot mechanics or secondary character development - I have a feeling good things were going on there but John and Dorian were so adorable in this one in particular that I just couldn't stop getting all googly-eyed and stupid all over them ( ... )

Ooh that's interesting on John's personal mythos - I wonder if there's any chance the rude awakening could come in another season (if we get one). And I'm sure the corruption issue would come up again - maybe even relate to the events that made John lose his previous partner.

You're right, they did leave the corruption within the force dangling as an unanswered question that would be nice to explore further in a second season *fingers crossed* It's interesting that even all those years later, John doesn't even want to talk about his father's case with anyone but Maldonado, that his distrust of his colleagues runs that deep.

This is all my opinion, but I think tonights episode rocked. My gosh, I was laughing my fool head off during a lot of it. When Rudy said that about having a child and Dorian raising it, it cracked me up. LOL Can you imagine what those people must have thought? LOL But come to find out, it was John's words that saved Dorian's job. John to the rescue. And then, giving John a leg was pure gold in my eyes. I loved it. I liked the entire episode, there wasn't anything I didn't like. I even liked Richard Paul in this one. He had a sense of humor and was kind for a change. I liked that. I see that everyone else liked this episode too. So glad to see that. They have to renew it after that awesome ending. They can't cancel it. I would just cry.

Yes on Richard! I forgot how much I liked that - even if he's a pain, he can still have a good side.

I usually just lurk here, but I just had to say how much I've enjoyed this show. I loved the John/Dorian relationship from the beginning. Was very annoyed that FOX aired the eps out of order -- WTF, guys -- but things really hit their stride story-wise over the last three to four eps. Really hope it's renewed because there is so much good work being done by so many people.
