There is nothing in the world that we can count on; even that we will wake up is an assumption

"Oh all the comrades e'er I had, they're sorry for my going away. And all the sweethearts e'er I had, they'd wish me one more day to stay..."

The rest of the Xerxes Breaks in the manor, of course, aren't really familiar with the kind of music their modern counterpart likes. But there's an answering song from somewhere out in the hallway as a familiar voice passes by.

"But since it falls unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not..."

The voice gets closer, a little louder; then it seems to fall off. The next words are just muffled, but -- still seem to be coming from somewhere nearby.

"I gently rise and softly call... good night and joy be with you all."

There's an inquiring knock then, on the inside of the bedroom's closet door.

Break stops when the other song starts up -- he's so absorbed in what he's doing that it takes him a moment to recognize his own voice. His first inclination is to leap up and run to the door and allow whoever it is inside, just in case the murders haven't entirely ceased yet. But then the voice hops, and the knock comes from the closet -- and there's only one Xerxes Break he knows of who can, and would, do such a thing.

He relaxes. It would really be wonderful to have the other's company right now. This whole mess must have been hard on him, too. Break's answer is a snippet of a song that might be a bit more Reaper's style.

"And we’ll follow the drum to Kingdom Come to forge a better way,
And we’ll keep our standard flying high 'till freedom wins the day.
And if I should fall before the end, don’t waste time mourning me;
Just raise a glass and kiss my ass, then on to victory."

Well. Maybe more his style.

This gets a rather hearty laugh from the other side of the door, and sure enough, there's a Break with a long ponytail sticking his head right through it a moment later.

"I seem to get the feeling your repertoire is quite a bit wider than mine," he observes with some amusement as he steps the rest of the way into the room. "Good day."

"Reaper," Break says warmly, giving the other man a nod. "My world's had a lot more time to make music than this one has, and at home I have it playing all the time. Remind me and I'll show you my singing flowers sometime."
