Books Read in 2008

[R] means a re-read; [L] means I got it from the library. There's a stretch in the middle of the year where I lost track of which day I finished reading what on, and the precise order; books are listed for completeness nonetheless.

If you click on ' year-end below you'll get more of my books-read posts ... or here's a list:

Hey! I noticed that you read the Foreigner series by C.J. Cherryh. How did you like them? I've been thinking about reading them when I get a chance.

I liked them, though they're not a series I get pantingly WOOHOO excited about. Her aliens are satisfyingly alien; her human culture occasionally is, too.

Foreigner is ABSOLUTELY CHOCK-FULL of political maneuvering and finagling; if you like that sort of book and enjoy alien cultures, you'll probably like 'em. However, if it makes your head hurt, don't bother.

Some people view the protagonist as unacceptably Mary-Sueish. I don't, but I can sort of see where they're coming from.

The aliens are basically incredibly tall, incredibly strong, ebony-skinned Japanese math-genius superstitious elves. Kind of.

Do you still have your Foreigner books? I keep wanted to start on that series (since I'm running out of Merchanter-Alliance 'verse, and in fact, anything else of hers I've not yet read), but I can never seem to find #1 when I'm at the bookstore, and I'm all about starting at the beginning.
No I'm not seriously "back on" LJ, just catching up on your posts. :)
