A midnight sestina: Lady of Ashes

Mar 31, 2003 23:51

So there I was, lying in bed, snuggled up to the pillow, and pairs of words kept coming into my head. I realized if I told it to go away I'd be mad at myself in the morning, so I got paper, and damn if it didn't turn into a sestina. No, I don't know what it's from or about or whatnot; I only wrote it, after all. Maybe it'll make more sense in the ( Read more... )

Nifty.

This sort of thing isn't usually my cup of tea (attention span problems, I guess), but it seems pretty good.

Now you just need to do a Dark Faerie Porn sestina.

O lovely.
Now I want to read the novel. And I have the terrible feeling that before the night is out I'll be even more bitterly disappointed that there is not, in fact, a novel.

I was eyeing it and wondering if it was interesting or stupid (which is such a fine line). It means a lot to know that *you* think it's interesting, given the sonnet cycles and your general taste in literature. :->

There might be more poems, at least, if I had any idea what the rest of the story was. I could certainly just improvise in suit, as it were; I'm good at that. As long as it's kept consistent, when done it'll look like I meant to.

I like it too. It reminds me both of Gene Wolf's Shadow of the Torturer and Anne Bishop's Jewels series.

But its also got something that's purely you.

Maybe more poems in the universe?

Hrm. More likely to happen if people are willing to brainstorm/bounce ideas off with me, to keep it in the front of my head. :->

Maybe some backstory on Judit? I know I immediately thought of the biblical judge and prophetess, but that's just my background.

I don't know too much about the 'original,' there; I needed a name that scanned, and for some reason none I tried worked till Judit (pronounced, in my head, 'YOO-dit,' by the way - no, I don't know why on that either).
