"Not a helpful attitude"

So i troll along to my local hospital every so often to have my weight and blood pressure checked. There's a sort of ritual to it.

Arrive, sit in the waiting room, contemplate the posters and the water cooler, try to get my pulse rate down to something approaching normal after driving through town centre traffic and looking for parking space close ( Read more... )

Not going Sheldon (okay, maybe a tiny bit :) ) but I agree that if they are going to nitpick over a tiny amount then they need to make sure their scales are accurate and zeroed/tested regularly. I guess the new digital scales don't need that any more or something? Who knows. Even if I do lose weight it's not like the doctor congratulates me on doing something right. It's more like "you still need to lose weight".

That's silly... what if you just drank 400g of water? Ate lunch? Wore heavier clothing?

(slightly distasteful medical stuff coming up...)

As I had to do a 24 hour urine collection study fairly recently to let them check how I was metabolising.. uhm, something, I dunno, it's all a blur now... I'd even say that a full or empty bladder can make a measurable difference to my 'all up weight'.

At the end of the day, I know I have to get my weight down, a LOT, and I know that only I can do that thru a combination of diet and exercise but I also know that a variation of less than a kilo is barely worth noticing excepting where it's part of a trend.

Which is why I keep a nice little graph and have done for the past 5+ years.

I would've mentioned peeing, but then figured it's probably easier to drink water (and it doesn't involve mentioning pee, heh!) I know my weight can fluctuate a pound or two within a day, so it seems silly that they look at it so "carefully".

As for the exercising and eating right, yes do get started on that some time :)
