By the Fire
The orange ambers of the fire glowed as they sat snuggled under a blanket on the couch. Neither spoke. They were comfortable in the silence that had fallen over the room save for the cackling fire in the stone fireplace in front of them. As the fire began to fade, he got up and poked at it, bring it temporarily back to life. Neither wanted the fire to end, because that would mean the end of her winter vacation. When the fire died, she would have to return to Yale for another semester while he suffered at home without her.
