about damn time

i've been meaning to get back to this topic but, well, "life is what happens while you're busy making plans"
anyhoo...
as i was saying before, my performance evaluation got delayed 7 months. then i got it scheduled for March 4th . but that got rescheduled to the 8th.
which then got rescheduled to the 9th.
in sooth, i can't really complain all that much. that big delay has actually served me well. this review is coming at a time when i'm doing really good work and have been for the last 6 months or so.
and those little delays over the last week just make me look better because one of the things that my manager likes about me is my general attitude. i'm easy to work with. if something is really an issue, i'll make certain that it gets addressed, but i don't sweat the small stuff. and i do regard the occasional rescheduling to be small stuff.
it was a great meeting. my manager is really happy with me and my work. in fact, she couldn't come up with any areas in which i "need improvement". i really have gone from strength to strength. she's going to be putting me forward for a change/promotion in job title and recommending a pay raise as well.
so, now i'm waiting for her to write up her portion of the performance evaluation so that we can both sign it and move forward.

and speaking of moving forward, i have to make some decisions about "what's next"
i'll be finishing up my secondment at the end of this month.
then i go back to Datacom and jump right into execution of tests for Q210
but what happens beyond that is a bit up in there.
one of the things that i'm looking into is seeing if i can get seconded to Production Support while i give Selenium a trial run on CMS*
see if it will work as well as i'm hoping… and also give me more experience with test automation in general (which i rather enjoy) Selenium specifically given that i've seen it referenced in several job listings in the US. it seems to be used pretty commonly there, which means it's a skill i should have before relocating there.

aside from that, i also need to make some decisions about training. Datacom is pretty good about supporting staff in this regard. in the last few years i've taken course for ISTQB**, Exploratory Testing (w/ James Bach), Java programming, and Test Automation.
currently i'm tossing up between taking the advanced ISTQB course, this would be about digging deeper into my current skills
or, taking a Business Analyst course. for me, this would be broadening my skill set.
i'm trying to decide what is going to best for me career-wise.

*a "case management system" called CMS. yeah, not exactly creative. why not just call it eponymous

**i can't say i actually learned anything in the ISTQB course, and in fact have some questions with whether that sort of certification actually helps anybody and/or the testing industry in general, but nonetheless it is a good thing to have on my CV
