Shut-In (Not quite)

Dec 05, 2005 09:27

So, I did my first "Shut-In" weekend where the plan was to stay in the apt. all weekend and do nothing but eat, sleep and write.  Simple plan, yes?  Not so easy to carry out though.  (One would think it should be pretty brainless but seriously, the thought of the whole do nothing but write was a little too daunting.)

Friday evening: came home, made ( Read more... )

Keith, a writer friend of mine (the one who wrote your Star Trek book, actually) recently commented that one of his most productive writing sessions recently was while on an Amtrak ride. You're trapped in a compartment for serveral hours with nothing but food and a laptop. Then you end up someplace interesting when it's over, and have the ride back to make edits or finish up. It's perfect.

Hey, that's a great idea! I should do a trip down south to SD or up north to SF and write the whole way... except for the whole moving train business. The last two times I was on a train, I was so dead with motion sickness that I thought I was going to have to jump. (sigh) I wonder if I can just imitate it with a trip down to the pool! (not great for the laptop but hey...) By the way, did you ever get your mini?

Yeah, motion sickness would kinda ruin that. Hmmm. Maybe you should have brought an extension cord to BestBuy on Black Friday. I only showed up at 3:30am, but there were folks who had been waiting since the previous night at 6pm.

No, I haven't gotten the mini yet. Rumor has it they're coming out with a new version of it in January (at Mac World Expo) that has all the nifty upgrades they recently made to the iMac, plus a bunch of cool stuff to make it the ultimate media center. Nothing is confirmed yet, but it looks like it might be a full-on TiVo-killer. So I'm waiting.

Hey, (not that this will help with the writing time, but) did you guys ever get around to watching Wonderfalls? It's full of snarky goodness! :)

No, we still haven't gotten around to watching Wonderfalls... the recent gift of "Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers" have kind of cut in on my tv watching time. (I love those little guys!) And the whole dying from exhaustion after work each night also had something to do with it.

Sounds like you're finally get your wish fullfillment of that wonder-mini you've always wanted. Here's hoping that it's all that you want it to be. And you'll have to let me know if it's super great... so I can see about something similar! :)
