he was certainly obsessive. He invariably dressed formally for supper in his hotel's dining room. He required large piles of napkins while dining, using one and throwing it aside.
But, Damn! He was brilliant. And he rarely gets credit for his accomplishments.
Hey, if you like Tesla and Heinlein, I hope you've read Spider Robinson's Lady Slings The Booze. He helps save the world, and he's odd as they come....
Just saw your posts on waternest, where I'm lurking. I'd like to be added, I think. ;-)
I'll have to pick that one up. I confess, I hadn't read anything by Spider Robinson until he appeared on AFH this year after he was picked to ghost write a new Heinlein.
Welcome on in! There isn't much to read here yet (aside from my silly ex angst,) but I'm working on it...
Spider's old stuff is absolutely fantastic. His later stuff reminds me a little too much of late Tom Robbins - sort of "dirty old hippie man," fwiw. But the Lady Sally stuff is like Heinlein on nitrous! ;-)
Hi, I was bored, and site hopping through some of your pages, and noticed an email address for Carnegie Mellon. Just thought it would have been interesting to meet up with someone from the area when I was at my parents over leave that's also on LJ.
Alas, the website isn't mine, just one I find interesting. However, I'm not too far from PA. Give me a heads up on your next leave and maybe I can swing by.
Just curious then, where abouts you might be? As my younger sister goes to school in Ohio at Case, and I used to live in the sprawling growth of Detroit's suburbia, so I'm somewhat familiar with the area, even though I haven't been there that much lately.

For the record, I don't really think he was a lunatic, I think he was autistic.

In the scientific community, I think he has a lot of recognition. Outside of it is another story...
