Tumblr. Masterpost. “What the fuck do I do?”
Was all that crossed Alex’s mind, repeating itself like a broken record.
He knew too fucking well that he was the most stupid boy in the world, but he wasn’t ready for Josh to spread the rumour of him being homosexual, ‘cause Alex wasn’t.
It was just Jack, and it would only ever be Jack.
Josh wouldn’t understand though, hence why Alex didn’t even try to explain himself. He just gave in because secretly, he was weak.
Though Jack meant the world to him, at least right now, Alex just couldn’t let Josh know.
So he guessed that he was to break Jack’s heart, and his own.

Sitting in his bedroom, with the door shut and the curtains closed. Alex’s phone was held tightly in his palm as he sat cross-legged on his mattress, elbows resting on his knees.
He knew he should make the call, just warn Jack, but he knew what the boy’s reaction would be.
“So you’re just giving up on me, Alex? Why did I expect different from you? I thought we had something...”
And he could hear the boy begin to cry, though his room was filled with silence.
“Alex...”
His mother interrupted the quiet, of course.
Alex remained silent; he wasn’t in the mood to talk to anybody, not right now.
He could hear the woman climbing the stairs, a groan slipped his lips. His mum had probably realised something was up, because it wasn’t everyday Alex would storm into the house, race up the stairs, and lock himself away in his room for hours.
There was a light tapping on his bedroom door, “Alex, sweetie, can I come in?”
The light haired boy just grunted, though his mother took it as her invite to come in.
Slowly shuffling her way inside, she tutted at the state of the boy on his bed. “Oh, darling... I haven’t seen you this upset since...” And Isobel paused as her throat felt as if it were gradually closing, because though the year had passed, it still hurt to remember. “S-sorry,” She quickly apologised, pulling herself together. “Since D-Daniel left us, you’ve never been this upset.” She finally managed to choke out; taking a seat beside the boy whose head instinctively lay on her shoulder.
“What’s wrong, Alex?” The older woman hushed, a hand reaching up to stroke the male’s hair supportively.
“I-I...” Alex knew he couldn’t tell her the truth, not the exact truth, but perhaps he could bend it just a little.
“Mum... I-I have this uh, friend, a-and he’s good friends with someone, but that someone isn’t what people would call n-normal, I guess,” He began, straining his mind to word himself correctly, he couldn’t afford to slip up. “A-and, there’s another person, but they don’t like that not-so-normal someone, and they’ve told my friend that he’s just like that someone, but my friend isn’t!” Tears began to well in the corners of his eyes, his mother only pulling him closer towards her, because she wasn’t stupid. Though she was unsure of the actual subject, she knew that this so called friend of Alex’s, was in fact her son himself.
“So in o-order to prove himself that he’s normal, my friend’s being blackmailed into staying away from the not-so-normal p-person... But he doesn’t want to mum, b-because that person means so much to him, and he knows that if he just left him, the person would do something stupid.” He sniffed, clutching to his mobile even tighter than before.
His mother simply took her arms away from the boy, and her hand grasped Alex’s, the one enclosing his phone. Peeling his fingers back, she sighed, “I think that your friend should call that not-so-normal someone, and tell them what the other person has said, and ask them for the advice.”
Alex slowly nodded, realising his mother wasn’t fooled by his poor explanation, “But what if they say that my friend’s stupid, and that he should just let the other person humiliate him?”
“Well, maybe in the end, that’s what would be best, because it seems that all your friend wants is for the not-so-normal someone to be happy, and I highly doubt they would if they lost you- ahem, your friend.”
Alex sighed, for he knew his mother was right. Yeah, all Alex was currently living for was to see that smile upon Jack’s face. He loved knowing that it was because of him that the boy grinned from ear to ear, so how would he feel if that was taken away?
“Just call him, darling. Tell him everything, and see what he says.” His mother finally said, standing to her feet. Pressing a kiss to the top of Alex’s head, she offered a sympathetic rub on his back, “Just remember that I’m always going to be here for you if you need me. I made the mistake of not listening to Daniel, and I don’t want what happened to him to happen to you. I can’t lose you, Alex.”
“You wont, mum, no, I would never leave you, not like that.”
“I hope so, darling. I love you, okay?”
“I love you, too, and thank you.” Alex murmured, wrapping his arms around the woman’s torso, holding her tightly.
He was a mummy’s boy, it was obvious, but he’d never been so glad to be dependant of the woman.

“Hey... Jack?”
“Alex? Are you okay?”
“I don’t know...”
Alex held his mobile to his ear as he flopped himself down onto his bed, his head lying on the pillow that had previously been taken by Jack. It still smelt like him.
“What’s happened?” The muffled voice on the end of the line asked.
“When you left earlier, I got a text... from Josh.”
Alex noticed how Jack had been silenced, there was a pause for at least a minute, before the voice came back.
“W-what did it say, Alex?”
The boy hated how he could tell there was fear in Jack’s tone.
“He asked me to meet him at the park, at two.”
“And did you go?”
“I had to, he threatened me.”
“A-Alex... did he hurt you?” The small voice squeaked into the speaker.
“No, he didn’t.” It was almost a lie. “I broke his nose, though.”
“Are you serious? Oh, God. Alex, why?”
“He knows, Jack. He knows about us.”
Alex could have sworn he heard the other male drop the phone.
“H-how did he work it out? He can’t have, he’s not that clever!” Jack was almost shouting, now.
“Well, he has. He just... he started calling you a faggot, and I got defensive. Then he asked why I cared so much about you, a-and I just went silent, and he worked it out, all of it.” Alex could feel his voice shaking, cracking, he knew it was only a matter of time before the waterworks occurred.
“Oh, Alex...” Was all Jack could muster from the shock. “S-so, is he going to tell everybody?”
“No.”
“Well, that’s good then?”
“He’s blackmailing me, Jack. He said that he won’t tell everybody that I like a guy, if I stay away from you...”
Another silence, and a few tears began to crawl down Alex’s cheeks as he waited for Jack to answer.
All that could be heard was a sob.
“A-Alex, p-please tell me that you didn’t...?”
“I’m so sorry, Jack.”
And simultaneously, both boys began to cry.
- - - -
“Alex, w-why did you agree?”
“I was scared, Jack. I just... I know that he’s spiteful enough to tell, and I’m not ready, not when I don’t know for certain whether this is real.” Alex wanted to hang up, because he couldn’t bear to hear the upset and hurt in Jack’s voice any longer.
“S-so, you’re not even sure whether you like me?”
“No, I didn’t mean it like that. I do like you, Jack, I’m getting to grips with that part, it’s just t-taking things further. I don’t think I can do it, not so early into all of this.” He murmured, his fingers gripping at his sheets, tugging them through frustration.
“And I-I guess that just means you’re leaving me, then?”
“You’re making it sound like we’re already together, but we aren’t!”
“We’re as good as, Alex. We both know that this isn’t some fucking joke, not some sort of one off thing, I know that I have the capability of falling in love with you.”
“Stop, Jack, please... You’re just making this so much harder.” Alex cried, his eyes shutting tightly.
“If we could make this work, we could be together for a long time, Alex. I-isn’t that what you want?”
“You know I do, I want this, I want you, but I’m just not ready.”
“W-what do you expect me to do, Alex? Just wait around for you until y-you think it’ll be okay again? How long do you think that will take? Are you just going to be ignoring me for weeks now, until you f-fucking get the guts to admit that yeah, you fucking like a guy?”
“I don’t know!” Frustration had taken it’s toll, and Alex wanted to scream. He honestly didn’t have a fucking clue what to do. If Alex could just force himself to admit his feelings publicly now, then he would without a doubt, but it doesn’t work like that. It takes time, fucking time, but he didn’t expect Jack to wait for him. “I don’t know, Jack, I honestly don’t. Th-that’s why I called you... I wanted to know what you think I should do.” Alex gulped, but he feared that he already knew the answer that was approaching.
“I... I think I should come over and see you.”
“Now?”
“Yeah, I’ll sneak out. I can’t deal talking with you like this over the phone, I just... Speaking to you in person might make this easier.”
“Okay, b-bye, Jack...”
And they both managed to hang up, as they chewed on their lip, gentle tears still rolling.
Alex couldn’t believe he was already breaking his deal with Josh, but this was important.
Jack was important.
