Jack pushed the flat door open, he'd managed to talk his manager into letting him go home for lunch, just to check on Alex. They'd all looked so shocked when he'd told them what had happened with Rachel, and honestly they were all surprised that he'd even gone into work today, and honestly he wasn't planning on going back. They'd let him off if he phoned and said Alex needed him. He had been expecting to find Alex asleep, or in the living room, but instead he was greeted by the English boys swearing. Jack laughed to himself, throwing his keys into the bowl beside the door and jogging down the hall way to Rachel's room.

Except it didn't even look like Rachel's room any more.

Her bed, wardrobe and TV were gone, and in there places was a chest of drawers, and a half built cot. Jack's eyebrows shot up, seeing Alex kneeling on the ground with a screwdriver in his hand, and his eyebrows furrowed together in the middle. He looked so frustrated that it was cute.

"Alex, what the fuck are you doing?" Jack asked, looking around the room again. Alex jumped, looking up from where he was, complete and utter panic written all over his face.

"Rachel's parents called." He grunted, pushing himself up from the floor. "They shouted. A lot. And apparently, its my fault Rachel's dead. Also, they're dropping the baby off in about an hour, they don't want anything to do with it, they don't even wanna name it, which means we need to name it, and call the hospital so they can register her and I need to go down later to sign the birth certificate." Alex's words came out in one big rush, making Jack look at him like he was speaking gibberish.

"We don't know how to look after a kid..."

"You don't think I know that?" Alex sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. "Will you help me build this thing?"

Jack nodded, pushing his sleeves up to his elbows and crossing the room to where Alex stood

It took them a further 45 minutes of arguing before Alex finally threw his screwdriver down onto the floor and stormed out, slamming the door behind him. Jack grumbled under his breath and looked at the instructions on the ground in front of him. Well, it was no fucking wonder they were having so much trouble. Alex had them up side down. Laughing once, Jack flipped them around the other way, and set to work himself. Managing to get the crib finished just as the front door went. He jumped up quickly, moving the small crib against the back wall, and practically sprinted out into the hallway, seeing Alex just stood behind the front door. Jack sighed out his nose, walking towards him and putting a hand on the small of his back. Alex looked at him with wide eyes, and Jack just kissed him softly, pushing him forward towards the door lightly.

Standing just to the side so Rachel's parents wouldn't see him, Jack watched Alex open the door, seeing him gulp when the pair outside stopped chatting.

"Alex." Rachel's mum's voice was so posh it made Jack's skin crawl. It was a weird contrast, considering how completely un-posh Rachel was.

"Uh, hey. Do you wanna come in or...?" Jack had never seen Alex quite so terrified of someone's parents before. There wasn't a reply, but the way that Alex jumped out of the way of the door made Jack guess they had agreed. Jack slid his hand into Alex's pulling him towards him and kissing his cheek quickly. It was almost funny when he felt Alex physically relax from something so simple

The pair watched as Rachel's parents walked into their small flat. Her mum dressed in a skirt suit and heels, her hair pulled so tightly into a bun it looked like she'd had hours of plastic surgery, not like someone who had just lost their only daughter. The contrast between her and Rachel's dad was remarkable, he was scruffy. Grey haired and wearing ripped jeans. He was also carrying everything. The baby, her bag, his wifes bag, and what looked like ten million other things. Jack let go of Alex's hand and stepped forward, offering to take something from him just to make the load a little lighter. The older man looked at Jack thankfully, handing him what he could only guess was the baby's carry on bag. Alex closed the door when the pair had gone into the living room and gave Jack a look of desperation.

"Relax. It'll be fine." Jack whispered, kissing him lightly before pulling him into the living room. Rachel's parents were already sitting on the sofa, so Alex was left standing, because the only seat left was the arm chair across the room, and he'd rather Jack sat down than him right now. Mainly because he was too jumpy to even try to sit down. Jack pressed his lips to Alex's cheek again quickly, before moving across the room and flopping himself down into the arm chair.

A few hours later, Jack was hiding in his and Alex's bedroom while Alex tried to put the baby to sleep. He had his laptop balancing on his stomach and an old episode of Adventure Time playing, because, y'know, Jack was a massive seven year old at heart. Looking up at the sound of the door opening, he grinned.

"Is she asleep?" Jack asked when Alex walked in, an exhausted look on his face, and a baby monitor in his hand. Things with Rachel's parents hadn't exactly gone smoothly. There was a lot of yelling, cursing and tears. Jack had to restrain himself from punching her mom in the face more than a few times. But if it wasn't wrong to hit a woman - goddamn, that woman would of had it. They'd said they wanted nothing to do with the kid, they refused to even name her, which worked out on Alex's part because he and Rachel has talked and had decided on the name Isobel if it was a girl. After Alex's mom. They'd also agreed that Rachel's funeral was going to be a small one, with only close friends and family, and it was going to be next week some time.

"Finally, yeah." Alex sighed out, putting the baby monitor on the bed side table and pulling his shirt off over his head, crawling onto the bed beside Jack and cuddling up to his side instantly. "What you watching?"
"Adventure Time." Jack chuckled, Alex smirking softly.
"You big kid."
"I know." Jack agreed. Alex laughed, lifting his head to look up at the boy beside him. "What?"
"Nothing." Alex smiled, kissing him lightly. "I'm going to sleep though, I'm exhausted."

Jack simply nodded, quickly shutting his laptop down and putting it on the floor under the bed. Wrapping his arms tightly around Alex's waist and kissing the back of his shoulder. Completely happy to lie there in the quiet, with the only noise being the sound of the older boys breathing slowing down as he slipped into sleep.
