Chapter 22

There had only been two days between Lisa’s departure and the start of the next term. Just two days for Jack and Alex to explain things to each other and go back to being cute before they had to hide away from the public eye from fear of rejection. When Alex had started to explain his High School life, Jack had listened to every word uttered with such interest. He’d never previously had the chance to listen to Alex’s stories from his time in England, and he feared that after July, he never would. With that came the vow to try and enjoy every moment they shared.

“There’s not much to tell really.” Alex had laughed the first time Jack had asked to listen.

“There has to be.” Jack had complained, pulling Alex over to the couch. “Please?”

“What do you want to know?”

“There’s too much.”

“You can just ask.” Alex smiled, kissing Jack.

“How many girlfriends did you have in High School?” Jack laughed. “Tell me about them.”

“Very few. There was an Alice in first year which I doubt really counts, and then there was a Rachel who I took to the prom.” The English boy started to answer.

“Who’d you lose ‘it’ to” Jack laughed, hugging Alex tight.

“Rachel actually, right after prom. Now do yours.” Alex grinned, prodding Jack’s side to tickle him.

“There’s not much to it actually.” Jack blushed. “I took this one girl to homecoming but she ended up going home early from food poisoning. After her I never really had anybody officially.”

“Was I your first time or something?” Alex joked, not expecting it to be serious.

“Yea, you were.” Jack blushed a bright red. He’d never wanted Alex to think of him as less mature or something, he’d just never felt like giving himself up until now. He didn’t value it like all the girls did, he just never felt comfortable around anybody other than Alex. That wasn’t to say he hadn’t been offered either, there’d been many parties where drunken girls had tried leading him to the bedroom. Maybe that had lead up to his reluctance to drink much when he went out, but Alex had brought down those walls too. He just had one left to demolish, and that was just Jack’s fear of rejection.

The final days of the holidays went by quicker than they both wanted. Most of it was filled with lying on the couch watching “Home Alone” countless times before Alex would try and make them both dinner. Their nights usually then ended with both of them sprawled shirtless across Jack’s bed, attacking each other’s lips and necks. It wasn’t until the last night that Jack wanted to clear things up. As they were lay, tracing circles with their fingers over each other’s bare chests, Jack had drifted into his own thoughts.

“Jack.” Alex whispered, bringing him bag to reality with a soft kiss.

“Yes?” Jack smiled, pulling the blankets over himself more.

“You don’t seem okay.”

“I am, don’t worry.”

“Good.” Alex grinned, pulling his lover close and closing his eyes.

“Actually, Alex?” Jack was hesitant.

“What?”

“I’ve been wondering actually, what are we doing?”

“What do you mean?”

“Like, usually I get asked by girls before they even come near me and here we are just making out live we’ve been together for years already.”

“I still don’t understand.” Alex laughed.

“Well, does this mean we’re together?” Jack blushed.

“Well what usually happens?”

“I don’t know, I always thought I’d ask you our or the other way around but, I don’t know.” Jack stumbled over his words. He wanted so desperately just to know where he stood, but phrasing it was a difficult task.

“Jack, will you be my boyfriend?” Alex grinned up at him and took his hand.

“Of course.” Jack smiled back.
