Chapter 8

Lisa had been there for an hour now and the constant displays of affection were really irritating Jack. Every now and again, Alex would lean over to kiss the girl on her cheek and she’d return it quickly with a hug and a loving gaze. Silently, Jack cursed the fact that he and Alex shared the same first lesson, for he’d have left long ago if he could lie about where he was going.

“So how did you two meet?” He eventually uttered, trying to stop the continuing affection.

“Well when we got there we got put into groups.” Alex started.

“But then the other two ended up splitting off from us so we basically got to spend the whole weekend alone together.” Lisa grinned. Great, they’d already started finishing each other’s sentences off.

“Yea, and then it just kinda happened I suppose. I mean yea it was fast but I’m happy.” Alex smiled. Fuck. Jack couldn’t help stare longingly at the genuine smile that was plastered across the English boy’s face. Lisa was both pretty and kind so there wasn’t even much to dislike about her. But they’d been together a weekend at most, Alex surely couldn’t be that happy with her already.

“What was that thing you wanted to tell me anyway?” Alex asked. Jack’s mind flicked back to the kiss once more and got so wrapped up in the memory that he couldn’t respond until Alex said his name once more.

“Oh, I’ll tell you later.” He shrugged off.

“Actually, Lisa and I were going to this restaurant tonight.”

“Jack can come!” Lisa chirped. It was really tempting to fake other plans, just to avoid further displays of affection between the lovers.

“Yea, and you can bring somebody too!” Alex grinned. He seemed so much more excited about it now so before he had a chance to stop himself, Jack found himself agreeing.

“Great!” Anyway, we’ll see you tonight.” The English boy smiled, kissing Lisa and seeing her to the door. Distracting himself, the American busied himself with looking for his phone. To his disappointment, he was greeted with it and several texts from friends back home within seconds.

“What do you think?” Alex came up behind him. The look on his face near broke Jack completely. The older boy genuinely looked worried about Jack’s reaction, as if he knew what had happened previously. “I mean, I know it’s kinda fast and I would have texted you but I don’t have your number so.”

“She’s brilliant.” Jack smiled back at him.

“Good, I mean, I was worried you wouldn’t like her.” Alex sighed, relieved. He was wrong though, Jack really disliked the girl. Though, it was harsh, the only reason for his dislike was the fact that she now had Alex; Jack would never.

“Shit.” Jack breathed half way through English.

“What is it?” Alex whispered back.

“Who the fuck am I going to bring tonight.” He panicked. He cursed himself for not thinking of this earlier, at least that would have been an excuse to decline the invite.

“Well find someone; it’ll be awkward with three.” Alex finished, returning to copying down notes. Well he had that right, it would be awkward. When English finished, he was met with a familiar ray of tattooed sunshine.

“Morning.” America chirped, practically skipping over to where the boys stood. “I didn’t know you both took English.”

“Morning.” Jack groaned. She may be nice, but her natural brightness gave him a headache. Whilst he was waking himself up, he felt a sharp dig in his ribs from Alex. When he turned to protest, he was met with the English boy ushering him forward.

“Her. Ask her.” Alex whispered in the American’s ear. Shrugging his shoulders, Jack pulled her carefully to the side so at least their conversation wouldn’t be heard.

“I was meaning to ask you, you seem like a pretty great girl so maybe you’d like to come with me and Alex somewhere tonight?” He smiled down at her.

“Sure, I’ll be at yours by 6.” She grinned. By the way she rose to the balls of her feet; Jack could tell she was looking forward to it. That was good at least; he’d have a friend to enjoy the night with.

“Dorm 106.” He called after her before following Alex down the hall back to their room.

“Nice one.” Alex grinned, elbowing him again.

“Fuck off.”
