“Alex? Alexander? Wake up, honey”
A soft voice brought him back to consciousness. His eyes flickered open to the sight of his Mother’s face.
“Hey sweetie” she smiled down at him “Feeling better?”
Alex sat up slightly and propped himself up on his elbows, he cleared his throat before speaking.
“Um, a little” he answered.
“What do you want for dinner?”
“I’m fine without it; I’m not really that hungry.”
“Alexander. You didn’t eat your dinner last night so I’m not taking no for an answer.” She said sternly, her hands on her hips.
“Fine, I don’t care what we have” he rolled his eyes.
“Are you going to go back to sleep?”
“Probably”
“Okay, I’ll come get you when dinner’s ready” she said before leaving.
Alex listened to her footsteps descend the staircase and then he closed his eyes again and he once again, went to sleep.

This time, Alex was awoken by the sound of knocking on his bedroom door. He pulled the duvet up over his head and grumbled a ‘go away’.
But his request was ignored and the door opened then closed again.
“I said go away; God Daniel, just leave me alone” he reached a hand out, grabbed his alarm clock and threw it in the direction of the door.
There was a dull ‘thud’ and then a quiet “Ouch”
“You’re grumpy” the person said.
Alex was quiet before he sat bolt upright.
“Jack.”
