In the end, they all had to split up.

"It's just not safe for us all to be sitting ducks in one place." Dave had argued. Tom, Dave, Sierra, Pierre and Jeremy had gone to an alternate venue a few hours north of the one Mark, Alex, Josh, John, Jack, and Cassadee had ended up at. It wasn't something too extravagant, but it was better than whatever they considered their previous residence.

Everyone seemed to worn out and absolutely out of it except for Jack and Alex. They had slept the whole way from Maryland. They were both wide awake. It was about four in the morning and they couldn't find it in themselves to conk out like the rest of them.

Alex took Jack's hand and swung the younger boy's arm lightly with his, walking around the venue as if they were there for a concert.

"I wonder what it was like…" Jack thought aloud. Alex sighed and looked over at him, a small smile dancing on his lips.

"I've been to one… A while ago." Alex said, squeezing Jack's hand. Jack looked at him, his already huge eyes the size of saucers.

"Tell me about it…." Jack said in awe. Alex stopped and took his other hand.

"It was amazing." Alex admitted. "Jack, I really wish you could have seen it… It was… beyond anything I'd ever seen before. I remember…" Then he stopped, his eyes growing wide. He looked absolutely and utterly terrified and panicked, his lips parted.

"What is it, Alex?" Jack asked hurriedly, closing the space between them and hugging the older boy close. He could feel his small body shaking against him as small gasps of what could only be described as pain escaped his lips.

"I-I don't r-remember…" Alex said so softly, Jack was barely able to catch it, even in their closeness. Jack held him tighter. He had almost forgotten about Alex's current mental state.

"Maybe… Maybe if we walk around… some of it will come back to you." Jack suggested, lifting the boy's chin up to meet his eyes. Alex looked so ashamed, as if he'd failed Jack. "Baby, please don't cry." Jack said helplessly. He hated when Alex cried. It made him feel so empty inside to see him broken like that. But that look he was giving him right now was the one that made Jack's heart lurch the first time he'd seen him in the window of Zack's car, his hand pressed against the window, drenched in rain.

Alex tore his eyes away from Jack's and gripped the front of Jack's shirt as if he was going to lose him if he let go. Then he did. He walked away from Jack, his head in his hands, not walking in any particular pattern. Jack's mouth went dry. What if he tried to run off?

"A-Alex…" Jack started softly.

"Jack!" Alex yelled back. Jack was startled and stumbled back into the wall. But he knew Alex was having one of his moments.

"Alex, everything is fine-" Jack said, but was quickly cut off.

"Everything isn't fine! Don't tell me it is…" Alex said, already cooling off to Jack's surprise. "Y-you don't know what it's like, Jack. You don't know what it's like to not remember ANYTHING about yourself. Not even your own name…" Alex said, his voice quivering. His expression softened as his eyes met Jack's.

"B-but I remember you." He said, as if he was talking to himself, trying to persuade himself that this was true. "I'm so sorry, Jack… I should have listened to you." Alex said helplessly, wrapping his arms around himself, not feeling worthy of Jack's glorious hugs. Jack didn't think so, though. He hugged Alex again, murmuring sweet nothings into his ear about how it didn't matter and he loved him just the same.

Alex found it hard to believe that this perfect boy could be his. He was so nice. Why was he so nice? He held his hands and inhaled sharply, looking around before meeting Jack's eyes again.

"Dance with me…" He breathed. Jack looked confused.

"What?" He asked. He'd heard of dancing before, but he sure as hell didn't know how to. "But there's no music…" He said softly.

"We have music here." Alex said, pressing his hand to Jack's chest. Jack couldn't help but grin.

"I swear, that's the fruitiest thing I've ever heard you say…" Jack mumbled. Alex gave him a dirty look.

"Just dance." He commanded, swaying back and forth, putting his hands on Jack's hips. Jack did the same.

"Noooo… put your hands here…" Alex said, placing Jack's arms around his neck.

"So this is dancing, eh?" Jack asked, feeling his heart pounding as they swayed to silence. Alex nodded, his eyes closed, hearing his own music.

"Shh…" He said, putting a finger to Jack's lips. "Just… dance." Alex said. Jack shuddered as he felt that same hand run back down his side and onto his hip. Sometimes Jack wondered if Alex had ever touched anyone like he'd touched him. He wondered if Alex had ever kissed another set of lips or held hands with someone else. He didn't really want to accept the fact that he probably did. Jack had only kissed girls before and it never meant much to him. He never felt a true connection. Then again, he never thought he liked guys either. It was only Alex.

They danced for what seemed like hours, their bodies swaying in perfect unison. All the stars lined up and the universe was giving them their moment for once. They progressively got closer, their foreheads touching, eyes closed, bodies pressed together. All of the sudden, Alex began shaking again. Jack opened his eyes to something he hadn't expected. Alex was laughing silently.

"I'm not that horrible of a dancer." Jack protested, nudging Alex's cheek.

"It's n-not that…" Alex said, still laughing.

"What then?" Jack asked, a huge smile on his face. He couldn't remember ever actually hearing Alex laugh. It was a beautiful sound, though.

"I remember." Alex said, his face bright. "I remember this." He said, looking around. Jack felt tears of joy threatening to spill over.

"Oh my God… Alex, we can do this. We can get your memory back." Jack said.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I just remember everyone singing along… and dancing and jumping and just being one…" Alex said, recollecting his new found memory. They lay on the floor, facing one another. "Everyone was equal." Alex said.

"Just like it should be…" Jack said, picturing hundreds of people jumping up and down to a song they all knew, screaming the words at the top of their lungs. He could practically feel the pure adrenaline still hanging in the air even after all these years. That kind of energy was difficult to get rid of, no matter how many people they put away.

"We should just run away." Alex said suddenly. Jack waited for him to continue. "Just you and I… We could do it. We could just run forever. They would never catch us." Alex said, pulling Jack into him, kissing him softly.

"We couldn't do that to Mark… or Cassadee… or anyone else." Jack said, distancing himself a little. But oh how he ached to just accept Alex's offer. Alex's face fell. "If it makes you feel any better… I would though, if I didn't have such a loud conscious." He said, the look in Alex's eyes ripping at his heart. He kissed him slowly to prove his point. He felt Alex's hands run under his shirt. Jack shivered as they passed over his stomach and hips.

Jack leap his lips wander to Alex's jaw and down his neck, biting gently at the skin. Alex tried to silence his moans of approval, but it wasn't working too well.

"Ugh… Jack, y-you're going to make m-me wake everyone… up." Alex said, finding it difficult to concentrate on forming his sentence when Jack was trying to leave hickeys on him. Jack purred against his skin, making Alex more vocal.

"And you told ME I was loud…" Jack murmured against his skin.

"I can't help it…" Alex said sheepishly.

"I can always st-" Jack started.

"No!" Alex said quickly. "You're fine." he added, aching for Jack's lips all the more. He thought of Jack doing more though… He thought of him letting his lips travel down, down, down… Alex blushed and crossed his legs, trying to be inconspicuous. Jack noticed though.

"Nu-uh…" Jack said, grinning. Alex blushed even harder, trying to think of dead puppies, but he couldn't seem to get his mind off Jack.

"Don't make fun of me…" Alex whined. Jack's smile faded.

"Would you…" Jack started, trying to figure out how to say this. "Would you let me do anything like that to you?" Jack asked, feeling suddenly ashamed of asking. Alex was silent. "I shouldn't have asked." Jack concluded.

"No! I mean… of course I would love that… but I wouldn't want to do it here. Not around everyone else…" Alex said shyly.

"I know." Jack agreed, running his hand over Alex's side.

"But… you can keep doing whatever you were doing before…" Alex said innocently. He really didn't have to ask twice.
