It was six hours later when Alex had built up the courage to stop making cups of tea for himself over and over and made his way over to Jack's. The two of the boys were currently sitting at Jack's living room and watching TV, no, just staring at it. Alex couldn't concentrate on the show because he didn't know how to start the talk with Jack, because it was really personal, and telling someone about it was kinda a big deal. Jack was mindlessly staring at the TV because the tension was killing him. They had been sat like that for ten minutes, and they haven't uttered a single word. Jack was getting really worried about the older boy and was just about to ask Alex what was wrong when Alex spoke up,

"Uh... I think I kinda owe you an explanation, but um... It's kinda personal so I don't really know how to talk about it," Alex's voice was quiet and he talked slowly.

He looked to his side to face Jack and the younger's eyes were boring right into his, and Alex could tell that Jack was worried, scared of what's gonna come out of Alex's mouth next. His facial expression was telling Alex to continue, so he went on,

"So, the reason I left earlier like that was because I needed to go to the store. To the drugstore. To buy medicine. For my dad," he paused often, trying to keep his voice calm.

He hadn't really cried about the whole thing, apart from when his brother died, because he hasn't felt the need, it didn't seem reasonable to cry over because he needed to stay strong, but talking about it was really hard. He felt as if he was telling a little kid that "Hey, your brother just died," it was so nerve wrecking, and Alex wasn't even sure why.

"Okay so basically my dad needs this medicine or else he'll go mental and violent and start flinging his fists and breaking stuff and it's because my brother died three years ago."

He said it all with just one breath, just wanting to get it over with. As he finished the sentence, his eyes were once again mindlessly focused on the TV. He didn't know what reaction to expect from the younger one. He didn't even know how Jack should react to it. He felt stupid making such a big fuss out of it, because it was irrelevant to Jack's life and he probably didn't even care.

As Alex's mind was racing with all of those thoughts, he could feel a pair of long bony hands wrap around him. He could feel Jack's enormous nose poke into the crook of his neck. They stayed like that for a minute, Jack just giving Alex the comfort he didn't even know he needed. It was after Jack had muttered a quiet "I'm sorry," when Alex could feel tears stinging his eyes. He furiously shut his eyes and his mouth became only a thin line, refusing to cry or let out a sob, he couldn't cry over this.

It was two hours later and Alex was sleeping, curled up beside Jack, who was watching The Pirates of the Caribbean marathon that was on TV. Jack felt bad for Alex, he really did. He would never have thought that the boy has to carry such a weight on his shoulders - losing his brother and dealing with his dad. Jack had no idea how to react to it, other than to just comfort the boy. He looked down on the boy, sleeping, looking calmer than ever, not having to worry about what goes around at home.

You would never think that a boy like Alex had problems like this. Then again, how could anyone know what goes on in the person's life by just looking at them? Life has shown that people can be into drugs and drinking because their parents have split up, not because they want to be cool. That people study their asses off not because they're "geeks" but because they'll get a beating at home if they don't get good grades. That some people are quiet not because they're shy, but because they've lost someone important to them, and don't know how to carry on. People wear masks every day. You'd never stop to think that the girl who laughs the loudest in the group is the one who cries herself to sleep, or that the most popular boy, who's life is seemingly perfect, has family problems. And Jack didn't have any superpowers or eyes that saw right trough people, no, he was just a regular boy who had just found out something he'd never have thought of hearing.

As Jack's mind boat was floating around in a sea of thoughts, he felt the older one shift a little beside him. Alex turned around and was now facing Jack. Jack looked into Alex's eyes and saw that the calm face now turned into a face of worry, probably just remembering why he was at Jack's house. They looked at each other for a bit and then Alex shifted even closer to Jack, if possible, and nuzzled his nose into the crook of Jack's neck. Jack let out a heavy sigh and his hand automatically went to stoke Alex's hair, oh the softness of that perfect hair.

Neither of the boys really knew what to say. What do you say in a moment like that? You sure don't want to bring up the topic they were talking about before, even if talking about things tends to make it better, talking about it would be hard. Now what else could you talk about at a moment like this? Everything about Alex's family seemed like a touchy topic and everything beside it seemed completely irrelevant.

"You want to stay over?" the words left Jack's lips before he could even think about it.

"Yeah, sure," the answer was only a quiet mutter, and it made Jack's hearth ache, the older boy looked and sounded so completely broken.

Without any further discussion Jack stood up, grabbing a hold of Alex's hand, and once he was up too, he gently tugged his hand, moving upstairs to his bedroom. Jack opened the door to it, and waited until Alex close it behind them, never letting each others hand go, until they reached the bed. Jack quickly took off his socks and jeans, not bothering to take off his shirt, and climbed into bed. He waited until Alex did the same with his own clothes, and then hold the duvet up for the boy, and once he climbed under it, he let his arm fall down and wrap itself around Alex's waist, pulling him just a little bit closer. Now it was Alex's turn to let out a heavy sigh as let his mind fall into the colorful world of dreams once again.
