It had been five days since Alex had told Jack half of the real story. Five days since Jack believed that Alex didn’t know who it was that caused him the black-blue marks on his body. More importantly, five days since they said they loved each other for the first time.
It was five days later that they entered the school building together, hands held tight between their bodies before Alex began to walk slightly ahead, pulling Jack along with him. Jack, confused as to why he was getting dragged along the corridor stumbled slightly, looking up to see a smiling Kyle staring in their direction.

“I see you two are ‘official’ now then.” He smiled, looking down at their joint hands.

“Yeah, you could say that.” Alex smiled, pulling Jack towards him, slipping an arm around the younger boy’s waist.

“What about... What about Rian? Is he okay with this now or…?”

“What do you think, Ky?” Alex replied sadly, his grip on Jack becoming slightly tighter. Kyle gave him an apologetic smile as he closed his locker, telling the two boys he needed to go otherwise he’d be late.

“I should probably get going too,” Jack said shifting in Alex’s grip so he was facing him. Alex hummed in acknowledgement, nodding his head as he chewed on his lip.

“Lex, are you listening?” Jack smiled bringing his hand up to Alex’s cheek, stroking his thumb across the skin.

“Yeah, yeah I am. I was just thinking about something…” He noticed the concerned look on Jack’s face and sent him a reassuring smile.
“Let’s go.”

Alex walked Jack to his class, light conversation and smiles between them the whole time. When they reached the classroom, Alex was quick to pull Jack into a hug, whispering “I love you” into his ear. Jack smiled, repeating the three words he would never tire of hearing. Alex joined the lips together once, twice, three times before pulling away and waving sheepishly at Jack as he walked off to his own class. Jack turned into the classroom pleased to see Zack sat in his usual seat. It had been a while since he’d seen the boy in person and if he was honest, he had missed his best friend.

It was second to last period and Jack a free lesson that he spends on his own. Thinking back, the day had gone really well for Jack. It was the first time that he and Alex had been open in front of the entire school about their relationship and it pleased him that nobody really seemed to care. It was nice to not have to hide anything anymore. It was even better to not have to worry about Rian.

Jack decided that he would go to the library to do some work, rather than finding a random spot around the school like he usually did. First though, he decided he really needed to go to the bathroom. The nearest ones were just past the canteen and the complete opposite direction to the library. Stepping through the door, he was greeted by Rian. He swallowed, not really expecting to see him after lasting a good 5 hours without doing so.

Rian looked over to him, smirking when he saw the look of utter panic on Jack’s face. Turning to leave, Jack opened the door slightly only for Rian to push it shut, effectively locking Jack in.

“I saw you and Alex earlier. You looked pretty cosy.” Jack looked down at the floor, shifting on the spot. “You not gonna say anything?”

Jack should his head, lifting his head to look Rian in the eye. “There’s nothing to say.”

“I think there is. At least, I have something to say.” Rian started, moving away from the door and into the centre of the room.

“I take it Alex told you what happened?” Rian asked leaning up against the sinks.

“Y-yeah. He was walking through the wood,” Rian nodded along to Jack’s words, folding his arms across his chest. “A-and someone jumped him from behind but he doesn’t know who it was.”

“Doesn’t know who it was?” Rian scoffed then breaking into laughter. “Is that what he told you? He must think you’re really stupid.”

“What are you talking about?” Jack asked nervously.

“He knows who it was. It was me.”

“You? Why? I- I don’t... Why would he lie about it?” Jack was confused. He didn’t understand why Alex would lie about it. Especially about something like that. He couldn’t listen; he didn’t want to know why Rian did it. He just wanted to know why Alex lied to him.

“I-I can’t listen to this. I- you’re lying.”

“If that’s what you want to believe, then whatever. Just know I did and Alex knows it was me.”

Jack turned then. Turned and ran straight to the library, hiding himself away in the corner. It couldn’t be true. Alex looked him in the eye and told him he didn’t know who it was. He wouldn’t lie.

Alex was waiting for Jack at the gates at the end of the day and there was no way that Jack could avoid him. That in mind, he chose to just walk straight past him, hearing Alex calling out his name. It was when he felt a grip on his arm that he snapped and turned around.

“What Alex? What do you want?”

“Jay, what’s wrong?” Alex did genuinely look really concerned and it was hard for Jack to concentrate on why it was he was pissed with Alex.

“You lied to me Alex! You fucking lied to me.” He told him, voice becoming softer as he reached the end of his sentence, voice breaking slightly. “You told me you didn’t know who it was that attacked you. But you do, don’t you?”

“Jack… Come on.”

“No, Alex. You promised me you were telling the truth. I trusted you. How do you expect me to do that anymore?”

“Jack, can you let me explain?” Jack shook his head, taking a step back from Alex and wiping his cheeks.

“There’s nothing to explain, Alex. I don’t want to see you right now.” He turned around, letting the tears fall, there was no point in trying to keep them at bay.

“Jack. Jay, please!”
