The first time I saw Rent was February 2006. I was a student at MIT at the time, and they were showing the movie for $3. I had wanted to see it while it was in theaters, but didn’t get the chance, so I jumped at the opportunity

The number of times I've watched it has gone down dramatically since I got the final Broadway Performance on DVD. But this post makes me want to pull out the movie.
IF YOU EVER FIND A TARDIS AND DO THAT, YOU'RE TAKING ME AND ERIN WITH YOU.
I remember the first exposure I had to Rent... My freshman year of high school, I started listening to it, and it became this thing that always ended up being played on every field trip and most of my friends were choir nerds like me, so we'd all be on the bus, singing along. There was a drama/choir trip to see Phantom of the Opera in San Francisco, and someone brought a big CD player. We spent the whole way there and back alternating between singing along to Rent and Les Mis at the tops of our lungs.
Did you hear, they're going to be bringing a revival of tick..tick...BOOM! back to Broadway :D So freaking excited for it
I have several recordings and videos of different versions of the stage show (including the workshop performances ;) god it was such a different show then).
I highly recommend reading Anthony Rapp's book. It's fantastic.
I didn't hear that about tick..tick...BOOM! - that's awesome! Now I just need to stop being broker than broke so I can see things.
I read his book in December and I couldn't put it down. I probably shouldn't have done that right before finals, but I still passed everything, so no harm done.
I just watched the DVD of the final Broadway performance the other day (got it from Netflix) and it was filmed beautifully. I own the movie, but I don't watch it often. It was nice to be absorbed into the storyline again. The music and lyrics are just so wonderful and it's such a shame Jonathan Larson died so young and didn't get to write more shows. I got to see a stage version when it was touring back in 06? 07? I definitely prefer the stage version to the film but they're both great! (I also love Anthony Rapp as Mark a lot! Have you read his book?)
Though ugh I unfortunately got "Light My Candle" stuck in my head for like three damn days at once point so now I *hate* the song. I wish it wasn't so.

(Although the more I watch the Musical the harder it is to watch the Movie, so there's that upside to not seeing it live)

I think it's been a couple months since I last saw it - I need to fix that.

We can time hop to see musicals with Rent cast and/or Raul Esparza in them. Erin says this sounds like the best plan ever.
