I so feel you on the American recipe thing. It's always such a bother to translate stuff into measurements that make sense. :p I eventually gave up and bought measuring cups and spoons (the spoons are SO weird!) off Amazon, but I've discovered that doesn't actually make it much easier. Few recipes will tell you exactly how they want you to measure out these cups and spoons. So you either loosely shovel the flour out with the measuring cup, or you could pack it in with a spoon until no more flour will go in the cup. It's all so imprecise. (How do people cook and bake like this ALL THE TIME?! I'd go mad.)

Okay, rant over. (It just bothers me a lot.)

Your cookies look great! We have a type of sand cookie over here and I've always thought the name had something to do with the texture because when you bite into one, it's sort of crumbly and dry (but in a butter-y sort of way). (But maybe that's because ours aren't dusted with sugar but have their edges dipped/rolled in coarse sugar.) Anyway, great-looking cookies!

Yes, the idea of packing the flour down or letting it be loose is why grams are more accurate!
Thank you! They were great. Your cookies sound lovely too and maybe I should try that version - if you have a favourite recipe please do let me send me a link, I'm always glad to find new things to bake :)
