Character
Name: Talim
Series: Soul Calibur
Timeline: Post-Soul Calibur IV
Canon Resource Links: Wind, be with me!

Affiliation: Trainer

Personality: Talim is certainly one of the kinder and more innocent characters in the Soul Calibur series. She's modest, but her abilities are more than enough to see her through. Most of her dialogue includes phrases that are reassuring and encouraging. She even apologizes to enemies once she beats them. But while she believes strongly in herself, she does ask for guidance and aid from the wind.

She has a positive outlook, but seems to realize the serious nature of what she is fighting against. Unlike Yun-seong (another character in the game, with whom she often butts heads and tries to reason with), her optimism is grounded in reality- she doesn't have any selfish motives and doesn't want to use the Soul Edge for her own purposes. Talim manages to be innocent, yet sincere. Her personality is unique in the sense that most young and optimistic characters in video games are portrayed as ditzy or naive, while Talim has a calm resolve and acknowledges the danger of the Soul Edge.

She cares for everyone, and helps others because she wants to- she has been shown to forgive her enemies and care for sick children without so much as a second thought. She would probably prefer to avoid violence (LOL FIGHTING GAME), but she knows that she has to destroy the evil energy. She fights purely for the good of the world, with no thirst for power or revenge.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS
- She has a very, very keen sense of good and evil, and right and wrong, because she herself is all goodness and light and fluffy bunnies.
- She is immensely kindhearted. Even if she does sense the evil in someone, she is willing to reason with them, and even forgive them.
- Despite her small stature, she is more than capable in a fight, even if it’s not something she enjoys.
- She is very in touch with nature, and cares about it greatly.
- In one of her story modes, she is seen to be taking care of sick children, so it’s safe to assume she does know at least the basics of medicine and first aid.

WEAKNESSES
- Her kindness and quickness to forgive may also be counted as a weakness.
- In spite of her sureness with her weapons, she does have moments of self-doubt and anxiety, and often has to ask the wind to help her.
- Her fighting style is not perfect, and does leave her open a lot, though I doubt this will come up much.
- She is young, and still inexperienced in a lot of ways. She had never been outside of her village until embarking on her journey to find Soul Edge.

Ah, forgive me. I’m still not entirely sure how this works. [ in fact, the video is upside down, and it takes her a moment to notice and flip it upright ] Oh! I suppose I really don’t know how it works, but I’ll figure it out eventually.

I was merely curious about something, and I was told this is the quickest way to ask everyone at large. So-- ah, I’m just wondering, what is your home like? Do you miss it? Do you have any friends or family waiting for you?

I’m from a small village, myself. There is nothing like… like this anywhere. And certainly nothing like the Pokémon. [ a green muzzle pokes its way over her shoulder, and she gives it an affectionate pat ]

Scyther! Scy!

Yes, yes. I’m grateful for your company, as well.

But I’m curious about what everyone has to say. You don’t have to speak about it if it makes you feel homesick, but sometimes I find it helps. We are all in the same boat, after all.

Third Person Sample:

The sun was shining, the birds singing, and though Talim found her ability to commune with nature more focused on the Pokémon than the state of the world as a whole these days, she didn’t need it to tell her it was a lovely day for a picnic.

If Talim’s world had such picture books, the red-and-white checkered blanket and the basked she carried slung over one arm would have called forth an image from one of them. She had happily helped out in the nearby town- the name of which she didn’t quite recall, but she was new here, and she was still learning- and had been paid for her services. Enough to splurge a little on a nice meal, at least.

Syi Salika hovered along just ahead of her. Talim didn’t like keeping him cooped up in his pokéball, even if the Scyther didn’t seem to mind it one way or another. It seemed… unfair, somehow, that she should get to walk around freely while her partner didn’t. Pokémon were living things and deserved to enjoy this world as much as she did. He had been her first friend in this place, after all.

“Scyther!” The pokémon called, indicating a large tree with one massive blade. He was taller than her, though that was hardly unusual, and his blades at least as long as her arms.

Talim nodded her approval, and moved to spread the blanket under the tree. It was really a lovely spot. Syi Salika had a good eye for such things, apparently. Blanket spread, she straightened, letting the breeze catch her hair. A sad smile crossed her face. She couldn’t speak with the wind as she once had been able to. For whatever reason, this place had taken that from her. But it was still there, drifting across her face, catching her hair and clothes, and that was some solace. The Wind Deity would not abandon her, nor she it, even if she had been limited.

She bent her head to say a small blessing, and her pokémon mimicked the motion. That made her smile. True, some things had been taken away, but she had gained so much.

“Thank you, Syi Salika,” she remarked, scratching the Scyther’s neck in a spot that he obviously enjoyed. “Let’s have lunch, shall we?”
