but what about the 2000-decade resurgance of hardcore punk compared to 90s? i guess it's mostly 80s worship. but i think no one talks about this decade because no one knows what to call it.

For the first few years, it was definitely a resurgence in the original spirit of hardcore punk, and definitely better than most 90's hardcore (which I think kept breaking new musical ground until the middle of the decade, at which point the revivalism officially began), but I think it's too 80's influenced to be its own thing

But then again, it could also be compared to certain 70's punk being a take on 50's rock/60's garage and doo wop and what not.

This decade is going to be remembered as this scary, crappy, time in history. It'll be known for 9-11,increased securities and lost freedoms,laws going to shit or to be short bush, Corporation scandals(enron, ect), hurricanes, global warming, afghanistan, iraq, who knows what else, maybe thats not even important to alot of people but a hell of a lot has happened. Decade of terror?

Punk wise, it seems like every year is different as kids take control, start new bands, places to play change ect. Its fucking crazy but the first thrash fest i went to... at the slaughterhouse in oaktown was like 4 years ago! thats like as long as i've been out of highschool. Christ.

things never seem relevant until several years after the fact. thats the way it always goes. its impossible to see the big picture while you're still working on creating it.

As far as the first paragraph, I think you're right. The difference between, say, this decade and the 70's and especially the 80's with similar levels of political corruption and general malcontent is that the people in those decades were more forward-thinking, willing to take risks, and probably just had a level of self determination and a belief that they could change things, all of which seem to be absent from this generation. In those two aforementioned decades, culturally speaking you had the youth laying the groundwork for what was to come in spite of living in horrible times: punk, metal, techno, post-punk that became alternative rock, hip-hop, you could even throw in pop cultural stuff like Star Wars or Nirvana as far as the effects they had on culture and being a reaction to the bullshit. As far as the political situation, it was due to the activities of normal people and boycotts and what not that ended Apartheid in South Africa. At this point in the Iraq war, I think the only way people can influence it is through well

Yeah I agree. The biggest way to destroy any "movement"(for the sake of this comment lets call anyone protesting against iraq a "movement")than to turn it into an industry and market it right back to people. At least thats the way I feel... Look at che shirts maybe?

I disagree. but i will agree only on one fact, It will be fucking hard to name the decade, no one will want to call it the millennium decade or what ever. you hardly hear about the 1910's referred to as the 10's but plenty on the 20's and so on. also no one talks about 1890 as the 90's. its just something that will probably be referenced by the actual year for 20 years. the next generation will probably be the one to come up with some silly name for the decade that the older generation will not like but be too old to know what sounds good.

im sure people thought hippys were a waste of space, which they were, but the left an impact on the 60's and we still remember the era today
