What about Billy Joel? I don't know how globally famous he is though. But he's a pretty big deal. But yeah even after I typed that I thought "nah, he's not near the Beatles".

I'll think about this for awhile.

Go for it! Any input is welcome.

BJ is pretty big, but I'd say, for example, that Springsteen is bigger. In fact, Springsteen may be the closest to the Beatles that I've come up with yet....

I agree. I didn't even think of the Boss.

I'm stumped, but I'm gonna talk to some people about it because this is pretty interesting!

U2 and R.E.M. both had their peaks, but are definitely on the way down...

*sharp intake of breath*

REM are NOT on the way down! No! I will not have it!

Me, I love Counting Crows. I don't think they've made a bad record yet, although I know they have neither the commercial success or the longevity of REM/U2 (I hate U2!), Beatles/Stones etc.

I also love the Eagles. I know that's probably not a popular choice but they were still touring up to a few years ago at least, and, again, not a bad record to their name.

Queen, I love.

Bob Dylan. He's released literally dozens of albums. He's fairly hit and miss, yes, but he's still releasing the odd gem (see "It's Not Dark Yet")

in terms of a long, prolific, successful, consistent career, I don't think anyone can hold a candle to The Beatles

I don't think so either...

The Eagles crossed my mind as well because I LOVE them but yeah I don't think they are there.
