First exam of the semester today... Good; the first is always the scariest, although I'm too old to be scared of tests these days. I have a nice calm going, like I sipped from a snifter of cognac this morning. This is the mindset I need; nothing is worth losing your composure over ( Read more... )

Waves are something that I've never been able to really wrap my head around, though for all practical purposes I understand them fine. When I was at Penn part of my thesis was in NMR and it boggled my mind.

Anyway, I think studying the behavior of waves passing through various substances sounds pretty cool. How'd you do on your test?

I actually rocked the hell out of that test! I feel like a million bucks today. Bowl + 1/2 tonight for me!

Yeah, this EM waves class is actually really cool. By the end of the semester we'll be discussing practical applications of wave propagation, e.g. how far a wave will penetrate / how much energy will be transferred to particular surfaces... I imagine that might have something to do with the magnetic resonance of your thesis; I wish that I was on the level where I could have a remotely intelligent discussion about EM fields & biological systems... Probably never will be, either, as biology is a pretty alien field to EE majors (although the intro to biology course I took blew my freakin' mind).
