Lex's secretary called him to tell him the reporter for the Daily Planet was on the way up. He leaned back in his chair, staring idly at the ceiling of his office. When White had told him the Planet wanted an interview, Lex had said yes out of apathy more than anything else. He wondered who they had sent ( ... )

Karen stood in front of the ostentatious door, steeling herself for the upcoming... encounter. There could be no other word for it. Luthor was unstable at the best of times, and who knew how he was acting these days?

Ignoring her recurring urge to sit in front of the Fortress of Solitude for another useless three hours, she pushed the door open with a deceptively slim hand after a cursory knock.

"Of course they sent you," Lex muttered. "Now my day is truly complete." Louder, he said, "Sure. Have a seat."

Power Girl didn't look much better than he felt. Not for the first time, he wondered what had been the real story behind her and Superman. The thought made him narrow his eyes, but for once, he didn't jump to conclusions. He was too tired, and with Clark gone, it didn't seem as urgent. Nothing felt as urgent, really.

"Don't get too excited, Luthor," Karen snipped, rather impressive patience already starting to fray. "I don't want to be here, I was sent."

She dug into her bag, pulling out a pad of paper and a pencil decorated with the Superman crest. The city of Metropolis made quite a lot of money off of the two resident capes- although Power Girl herself had only had merchandise for the past few months.

Kara flipped to a blank page and tapped her pencil on the pad nervously. "I'm supposed to be asking you about the disappearance of Superman."
