Нашла базу данных пропавших без вести во время Второй Мировой. А потом нашла там и своего прадеда. Самые близкие мои прабабушка и бабушка были его женой и дочерью, так что эта находка произвела на меня должное впечатление.

Так банально и страшно: солдат, пропал б/ вести в сентябре 42г.

yes. someone put in a lot of effort to digitize this info.

when i was little, i read a book about a kid who goes looking for his father, who was also listed as MIA, sometime after the war. the kid followed the trail of the letters the soldier wrote home, and went to those places and talked to the locals. i wondered why my father never did that. my grandfather is like a phantom in our family, we know next to nothing about him, what happened in the war.... i would love to find out, in a way i feel like that would shed some light on my father as well.
