So, I was quite excited watching the new trailer for Brave, the new Pixar film. I loved the protagonist from the beginning - I have a thing for female archers, okay - and in my mind, the film that we were going to have was this adventurer. I agree! I mean, she's young and going off to fight a bear. Her being young could be as much of an obstacle as her being a girl.

It's true that the plot is cliché, but in my case I just want to wait until the movie is out to feel anything about it. It might be played straight, which would kinda suck, but perhaps it's a subversion. So I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.

I do, however, understand the problematic. But I love that you're giving it a chance and still like it enough. The haters in my flist that pissed me off, it's more because they're yelling HYPOCRIIIIIITS too loudly than anything, and they're precisely the folks who get easily resentful/obsessed about things they disliked/liked in annoying ways that turn me off their causes. So seeing them bashing Brave because OMG 16 YEARS AND 12 MOVIES or whatever when they normally don't give a shit about feminism or Pixar's lack of female protagonists and patting themselves on the back for not fangirling was kinda bleagh.

Oh, I'm still more than giving it a chance (it's PIXAR, I trust them almost completely), and even if it's played straight I won't hold it against the character per se but against the writers. I just get tired of this particular Reason Why.

Yeah, I understand that. And I agree that the Reason is overdone to death.

I just wished the girls I mentioned would stay out of it and let me enjoy the pretty hair. They are so smug.
