Dude, depends to who are you telling to. I don't know, I have seen lots of black women (who you know, have the story behind their backs) who have very good reasons to dislike it.

I still don't think so? I mean, are there reasons why to be wary? Sure. But in the end, the movie hasn't been shown at all. At least give it the benefit of doubt until it's actually shown.

Because that is movie that talks about them and it could be very important or very offensive, even if you don't see nothing wrong, you are not black, so you (or any non-black people) aren't in a place tot ell them what they can say or can't say about a Disney movie about a black princess in New Orleans. For you may be fandom, for black people may represent a lot of stereotypes they have lived all their lives, so if they want to talk about what they liked or disliked in a.. I don't know, trailer, well, they may be more affected than any non-black person.

(That doesn't mean they aren't people who liked it, but heck, I won't dare to tell them to shut up because it doesn't mean the same for me than for them.)

See, I get all of this, I truly and honestly do. And as I said, I understand why the need to be wary. I never said that I don't see anything wrong, because 'til this point, the only thing that there is to see is possibilities. You said it yourself. It could be very important or offensive. COULD being the important part. I think that with a five minutes or less trailer is hard to decide if a whole movie is going to be damaging or not.

By the amount of hate and bashing I have seen, you would believe that the movie has been showing non-stop for months and months now. All I am saying is to at least WAIT until the movie actually hits the movie theaters. Once it does that? You won't see me say a PEEP about the hate/bashing being unnecessary or not. But at this point in time, I think that the overzealousness over it is being more damaging than good.

Can we WAIT until The Princess and the Frog actually shows up before you keep harping against it?

Ditto. I'm excited about it too, and really, why do people read too much into things like this?

As I told Vi above, I do realize why there are legitimate reasons why to be wary about it: there are a million chances for the movie to fuck up and press over white privilege, or keep on with stereotypical hurting cliches. Considering that it's the very first Disney movie with an african-american princess, I understand why the expectations are so huge, and I would never ever think of telling an an african-descendant to 'keep it cool' or something like that.

... but at the same time I am still sticking to my previous comment that with a five minutes trailer that has appeared in youtube, it's very, very, VERY hard to be sure if it's going to be either amazing or if it's going to blow. I mean, at least wait until its out.

Meh. Point there. I guess we'll have to wait and see and hope that it doesn't turn out bad? :o
